Dog days of summer.
O.k. if you don’t know it by now - I LOVE my dogs. These past few month I’ve had my heart broken 2 times. I try not to think about it but still I tear up almost daily at the thought of missing Hunny & Hope. Especially with both and how they died I have given it much thought. So now I would like to share.. Pets on Pot.
Cannabis is very much a part of our life, used daily for pain control. We also have pets.
Yes we feed our dogs table scraps. Meat and veges. We LOVE our dogs they are a part of our family. We have always had dogs, from Great Danes to Scruffy (no clue really on what she is for sure - besides lovable) And always more than one - usually 3 max 4.* And cats - always 3, max- 17 at once! - That is another story ;-)))
We have watched and learned about our pets and Cannabis.
Indy was a lab and was obese as years went on, she has always had problems with her legs - as a matter of fact - I was painting a mural in a pet store years ago and overheard the owner saying that the remaining puppy was going to have to be put down because he had problems walking. She would not sell her. I TOOK the PUP instead of the cash and we had Indy about 16 years ;-))

SHE LOVED Cannabis. As soon as Storm lit up or turned on his volcano she hobbled over! He tail would wag and she’d almost dance on the spot, nose pointed up begging to have it blown in her face. I am convinced it bought her the last 2 years she had.
-Hunny would turn her nose away.. but would not leave. Once she got stung by several wasps and she would not stop shaking. I intentionally asked Storm to blow in her face and not long after she was napping with me and calm as can be. She did not like cookies and would turn her nose up at them and walk away.
-Scruffy is the BUD stealer!
She likes the plant . She is tiny but every now and then if you drop a bud she grabs it and runs. She has nasal problems and usually snores one night after scoring some bud we all laughed at how soundly she slept - no snoring! AND so playful the next day it was insane. Also NOT big on the cookies.
-Tequila LOVES cannabis. Again turn on the volcano and she is there! She also loves cookies and tries all the time to get nibbles, licks crumbs of cookies and bud off the floor and ALSO steals fresh blueberries and strawberries right OFF the bush outside! She knows what is good for her. Tequila is 16 and starting to get ‘lumpy” ;-( she growls but still is the first in the pool and never can resist a ball. When she is sore you can tell and YES sometimes we do blow it in her face and she just lies there and puts her head down. OFTEN she licks at the smoke.
-HOPE liked Cannabis. Being a pup we didn’t really subject her to it or blow it in her face-she was kookie & energetic enough being a puppy.
*HOPE stole a cookie one time. IN a container that I myself had difficulty opening. She ate the entire cookie. She became incredibly stoned - we were worried took her to the vet told them what she had done- the vet said ‘oh, pets have died from cannabis” I asked her is she knew of that as a fact, had witnessed it first hand or could share a documented case. No. - I was/am skeptical about that. Anyhow all Hope needed was a GOOD sleep and was bouncing right back the next day like nothing happened. ***As you might be aware.. a month later she got into some prescribed medication and in less that an hour lay dying in our arms. ;-( *What you might not know is HUNNY died from BONES. I had no idea and have been giving my dogs boiled bones forever. Or bought them from a pet store! Apparently some dogs just can’t digest them properly. I did not realize how sick she was - she just seems quiet that day.. When I did realize she was dying -it was pretty quick. Hunny died in my arms. I miss them so much.
ALL of my dogs have consumed Cannabis and none have died from it.
PLEASE be careful with all medications. Cannabis or other.
Such a hard lesson... but a lesson none the less.
Recently, I asked people to share their cannabis stories - so far, they have been great!
NO PETS have died. Some funny stories but most much like my own. Some like it some don’t . One man even makes a point to make sure he buys it for his dog that has a terrible time with thunder and fireworks. People who’s dogs are old and have arthritis give it to them. One bakes dog cookies with it! Several animals like to eat Cannabis.
Even a Gecco that ‘prefers’ red hair bud...
Food for thought. Our pets are our family. Do you know what that flea chemical you are putting on their skin does to them? USE something natural! DO you give your pets anti anxiety medication?? Would you give your kids something with out researching it? YIKES. Did you know that Cannabis was use by veterinarians for years!? Until the US outLAWed it ;-( Well I have a few toons in the works. Best get back to it.
