I purchased a 3 wheel trike - a Schwinn! I have always had images of owning a Schwinn! Finally the situation arose and we could afford one. Well, that’s not completely true. I was also talking about a used smart car, but we simply can’t afford it. We could if we wanted to take out a loan, but I’m done with going further in debt. Just the thought exhausts me. So NO! The bike would allow me to run errands, no gas, have some fun! Get some exercise! Take Poppy with me! Heck Scruffy TOO!
The day I got it I rode home with a HUGE grin on my face in the rain!
My mom took photos from her car, she stayed close as I rode it home!
Norm came home attached all the gear- basket, bell, Tim Hortons coffee cup holder! All ready for me to take out the next day! Hee hee hee
The next day, Saturday - off I went! It was not long on my ride when I would hear a ‘ker-klunk’ and it would repeat as the wheel went around every time, some times it would stop and Id think - ‘WHEW’, but soon it started up again, I rode home, Norm was on the front lawn and ‘heard me coming’.
He looked but could see nothing obvious (Norm was a mechanic for Canadian Tire for years) and he said he did not want to touch it, in case it messed with the LIFETIME warranty.
So.. I rode it anyhow hoping it would go away.
I rode around the neighborhood and even had someone say - “You might want to have that looked at!” LOL - He was laughing - I smiled but was not laughing on the inside. it was day 2 of owning my new bike ;(
I went for a ride with my good friend Cathy the next day and she too commented, something is wrong and I should have it checked. I remembered the repair man is in Wednesdays and I went back to the store ON MY BIKE - rode right in and right to the back of the store. He rode it around and agreed. I was to call the company and tell them there was a problem with the rear axle. The Dept, manager suggest I do the same.. I thought - why are they not calling them? Its a new bike.. but I let it go and agreed.
Came home called Schwinn- had a wonderful conversation and was told the part would be at my place on the 28th. I was assured I could continue to ride my bike, but Norm did not agree - It could damage other parts- it’s only a few days so I waited. I stayed home. It came and went. No part.
I called them early this week to say - where is the part only to be told:
”that part was shipped... oh, hang on a second... no it was not. That part is on back order until... the 16th of June, possibly...”
ARE you kidding me!? THIS is a band new bike! Not cheap. Now, not only has it not been sent, no one called, no e mail.. nothing - wow, on customer service. I started to cry! I was so upset I said forget it - don’t send it and hung up. I probably thew in a ‘are you FU&*&^NG kidding me?’ Can’t remember - don’t care.
I got off the phone, called Canadian Tire and was told there are NO RETURNS on bikes. WTF!? Then I was told there was not a manager I could speak too. I hung up on that young lady too. I had a melt down over a bike. I was so disappointed. Over a bike.
It’s NOT just a bike!
It was FUN! I was getting OUT! Freedom!! I could actually take myself to the post office! Visit some friends! Run small errands or JUST get out and ride with POPPY! She of course took naturally to my basket!!
If not for the constant Ker-klunk - I was in bicycle bliss! I was even drawing about it! Have Bike will travel! I was handing out comics as I rode all over town and talking to strangers!
NEEDLESS to say after SEVERAL attempts at contacting Schwinn, I’ve had no response to date and that is just beyond disappointing. The website did not even have a Canadian Distributor I could contact. I called and left a message with someone apparently in upper management. NOTHING.
I waited a day. Called Canadian Tire and was told bring the bike back for a full refund. I was elated and crushed. Storm looked at me and said - your not going to cry when you return it are you? (1/2 joking). We left to ride it back and it started to POUR rain. LOL just as the firs ride- I figured my last ride on my Schwinn would be as memorable... it was hot and the rain refreshing, everyone I past I smiled at and they smiled right back!
When we got to the store the young man asked If I wanted to just exchange- they had another!! GASP!
YES! Tears welled in my eyes! He smiled - like I was nuts..
Storm had just arrived - he turned back to see if I had taken cover somewhere in the downpour. LOL
I was told I could pick up my new Bike tomorrow - it would be assembled that day! We were there first thing! Bright & Early and my grin was just as big as the first day I rode it out of the store. No noise! All the way home!
I thought of this drawing as I cried about my bike. I was lying on the sofa thinking about the noise, this exactly what it reminded me of. Our knife sharpening man- LOL 'Ker Klunk...' 'Ker klunk..' 'ker klunk.....'
Still nothing from Schwinn. Perhaps they just don’t care.
I am very concerned about that part being on back order but I have decided to just LOVE my NEW bike and start fresh!!
So much for that big sticker on the new bikes that says boldly of course : LIFETIME WARRANTY as long as you own the bike.. it should then say equally as big : ON SOME STUFF ONLY. IF you can get a hold of us.
I am so tired of spending money and have stuff NOT work, Especially BIG stuff... and from companies who show us, they could care less.
Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me.
Especially if I am silly enough to spend my money twice.
I hope for both our sakes, I have a simply awesome ride from here on out!
***My new Bike!I have taken it out several times now and I LOVE it!
Wait until you see the photos - soon, It really has become a bike built for 3!
Scruffy is in too. LOL
More on the bike in the next few days.
P.S. I did the toon in black and white as I thought, enough... I don't want to think anymore about my old bike! On to the new.. The new is way more fun.. and BTW STILL not a word from Schwinn customer service. ;(
