Wishing he was fishing

My son just returned from a 9 day fishing trip, in time for me to make breakfast for him and his company and leave to go fishing!  LOL
While he was waiting the other day to go, he was watching our neighbor ride her lawnmower and said he wished he was trolling. ;)   It's that easy some days.
I miss him and find I like to draw fishing cartoons - it keeps me close ;)
Mentally if not physically!

He is away again - I hope it's not the downpour that we have been experiencing all day here in Keswick! My pond is over flowing! ;) I am sure it won't matter. He is also with a friend who came from Germany just to fish!   Talk about 'die hards'!
They are musky hunting  as I type. ;)

Do what you love and not even the rain will stop you!

PictureStorm's first Muskie.
Want to teach your son patience...
Teach him to fish.
We did not - well yes, we did fish with him when he was little, but it really was other friends that introduced him to it.
My boy loves to fish & he is getting better at it each time.
He has always been amazed with fish.  It amuses me how long these guys can sit and sit and sit.. lol, then they get a nibble and the thrill is there!
I enjoy it but not nearly as much as I enjoy drawing.
I enjoy the relaxing on the boat and conversation with my son. ❤

Anyhow I am thrilled Storm LOVES to fish. It has connected him with nature and it is a love I can see will always be there. Awesome.  Teach a man to fish..  He is into remote places though and a mom worries, especially after I hear a bear showed up in their camp one night! But - got to let that go.  My baby turned into a boy and that boy is now a man, what an awesome experience called LIFE.   He inspired the drawing above.

Yes, here I take an opportunity to tell you it is because of Cannabis he can sit, sometimes just sitting is painful for people.  So is sleeping.  How many of us take each for granted all the time.  Myself included.  He's gone fishing as I type this.  I ask do you have your meds?
It's not an easy task BTW, even getting the boat launched he does all by himself.  I am useless - Not as useless as his friend who forgot to hold the rope when Storm was parking his truck... LOL  he had to jump in to then save his boat!
Hee hee hee, glad it was his bud and NOT me!
So when I remind him to wear his life jacket, I also ask if he has enough meds.
If not, it would become painful.  We have forgotten, or we have gone out  thinking we would not be as long as expected...  anything when in pain is NO LONGER enjoyable .
My son needs his medicine to function.  Thank GOD it works for him and is keeping him as healthy as he can possibly be! Waiting ... any moment now...

BTW - I hope my son has protected lakes to fish in  as he gets older.

What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Slugs and snails and puppy-dogs' tails,
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice and everything nice,
That's what little girls are made of.

I drew this cartoon in the summer  in the evening after a day of fishing.  It's true, it happened.  Storm makes me laugh. He knew I would not get mad as I dress like a lumberjack to go fishing and prepare for fish guts and more.... it is the way he did it that is priceless.
It is awesome that your kid is always your kid when around, even when they get older - they do things and instantly you are in a flash back of when they were 8 or 10 - It's wonderful.

Boys. Farts, boogers, slime, toads, fish, dead things on the shore.. a curiosity that only most boys/men admire. Now more a man than a boy  every now and then he gets in 'a good one'  as does his 50 year old father!
Come to think of it I still manage the odd prank.

That is what boys do... to their mom's anyhow, and us mom's we love it even if we don't always let on! LOL   I inked this yesterday day - My guys went to the boat show today
- Can you tell we are a family anxious for spring?  More boating ! More fish tales!
More memories and yes more slime!

It is one of my favorite cartoons.

How could I not as I sit and think about what a great weekend we had. Yesterday was the best. Storm got me up at 6 and we were fishing by 7 ;-) It started at our fishing hole but we just were not getting any bites and it was becoming a busy spot so we decided to go on an adventure. We went to this other place in Hollandlanding, a public trail along a river, near a dam. It was beautiful. It also had the bonus of dogs. ;-) Wish I had thought to bring mine..
Storm would fish and I walked the path saying good morning to all passers by and their pooches. I talk to everyone.
You can go a while without seeing anyone and the freakiest thing happened RIGHT where we were fishing and I saw the whole thing. It played in my mind slow motion a few times yesterday. A kid was walking by, about 17 (looked about Storm's age) I said 'Hi' and he did too with a smile, and then -a guy on his bike (looked like he did this all the time) was riding past with his dog on the leash - a beautiful Husky -and as I looked at the dog I realized what was happening an could not get the words out soon enough! The kid was close-lined! He flew up into the air like a toon! Flat on his back OUCH!!  The guy on the bike was very, very, sorry- the obviously well trained dog was very sorry for what he done and the kid of course was up in a flash and blushing like he tripped! I asked him if he was o.k. and he said 'yes he was..' A few words passed and I told him "well not to many people can say they were close lined by a dog.."  He laughed and went on his way. The guy on the bike still shaken up sat for a few minutes more.  I just thanked God it was not the old lady I had seen earlier. OR ME! LOL   Anyhow - no fish, a few nibbles, lots of turtles and much to explore.
Home at lunch for food, a swim with dad and the dogs then we went out again. Norm not much of a fisherman and you know his mind is else where these days.....
A friend said we could use the dock ;-)) It was so beautiful. Our catch you can see! I caught the first one and Storm was jealous- hee hee hee. We talked and laughed.  At one point I realize- Storm walking ahead of me carrying his Pole. Me carrying: My sketchbooks, munchies, beverages, my pole, my camera and the Buddha bacon bait;-) And Storms napsack, his sweater, bait box.. I just had to laugh - he did too when he realized why I was laughing. I am his fishing sherpa. Actually he said, he is Jeremy and I am his his camera guy. LOL
Again a beautiful weekend.  Oh and  God provided the rainbow to make the day complete.

Storm was off work today and we had lunch together (compliments of Hallmark Cards ! ;-) and watched River Monsters.  http://animal.discovery.com/videos/river-monsters
We love that show. It is so great on many levels. It teaches you about people and how they live, how they depend on a fish to LIVE. We have it so good I am humbled. It is about patience.  Peace. Determination.
It has amazing FISH! Big fish, toothy fish, killer fish, flat fish, take over fish, incredible fish - and you know that story- about the fish that goes up the penis .. IT'S TRUE!  I mostly enjoy the places he goes and the people he talks to. Jeremy Wade is the host and to tell the truth I like him more than the fish (wink wink nudge nudge) I can watch him for hours, just like I've watched the movie 300 - oh - 300 times! ;-) He is incredibly more attractive with each episode. Although in real life I bet his smell is hmmm.. something that takes getting use to,
you should see the size of some of these fish! When he holds them he can hardly contain his excitement in his face! OH - and when one gets away- GASP .. the way he stares at that empty hook. The one that got away. 'SIGH' ... it breaks my heart.
He seems to me, like someone who has spent his life doing what he loves! How blessed. A good guy. Making a positive difference on this planet.  I love the grey hair.  I asked Norm to dye his grey - he said no. His loss ;-)
Anyhow I drew in between visits from my busy son and just had a good day! GOT an amazing email that had had me grinning ear to ear!  ALSO in touch with a new magazine that is interested to publishing the strip AND a compassion club ordered a box of comics to give to their patients! ;-)) How cool is that?"  A wonderful day.  Here is a toon I did inspired by yesterdays visit to Richters ;-)  Good night, I'm off to have nightmares about River Monsters! Or dreams of Jeremey. tee hee hee
FISH ON!!!
