A spooky warm up painting -you can learn how on YouTube with Ruth Wilshaw or at her site.. on days I'm not sure what to paint I like to take a lesson to increase my gouache knowledge and I change lessons to suit my own ideas & imaginings. Everyone can teach us something.
October! What's not to love -especially with temperatures (later this week) in the 30's.. Mornings I'm in sweat pants - afternoons in shorts & evening in P.Js & my snuggly robe -cool nights terrific for sleeping. October has got it all - fall -the leaves are amazing (as always) changed colours not yet fallen, harvests are ready (vegetables, fruits & medicine!) -my favourite is the pumpkin patch! Mushrooms are plenty - with this mornings rain, there will be new appearances in the woods, Storm has very tasty 'wine caps' growing in the garden beds, now void of vegetables. It's Halloween season' an exceptionally creative time - from decorating to creating images to sewing costumes to sharing recipes to comfort food. I need to cool it on the comfort food! The problem with becoming a better cook/baker- you have a tendency to become slightly chubbier. I've mastered lasagna & am trying new recipes seen mostly on Instagram (so creative, way & tasty) like tonights chicken with apples & brie. I'll have to cool it when I can no longer get out and walk the forest, that's still a couple of months away. It's a different experience right now with all the leaves crunching.
We no longer celebrate Halloween as we once did, nor do we watch the horror flicks - why? What way do they possible contribute positively to ones life? I read some people actually are terrified of the 'zombie invasion'. I guess from watching too many seasons of the walking dead- what do you expect? Our cellphones have made us the walking dead, do you know how many people have been in accidents even died, from looking at their phones? Too many. I've gotten into the habit of turning mine off, I want to create - not look at others creations - scrolling for hours that seem like minutes, I've got paintings to paint!! I do have a few favourite movies that make me feel in the festive Spirit' - Nightmare before Christmas, The great pumpkin patch with Snoopy & friends (of course), I watch Monkey Bones' this time of year & Beetlejuice, to name a few. I'm also a fan of the old classics like Dracula & The Creature from the Black Lagoon -movies that inspired the current movie makers. What's not to love in October?
I'm frustrated with social media and not posting as much - which has me creating more. This month I'll give it even more of a break & focus on my sketchbook instead of cellphone... I already can anticipate the outcome - better art, less stress. Truthfully, this past month in particular had met feeling 'sad', sad because several friends dogs died, which has me in tears as I know how painful it is.. then it had me stressing about my own girls.
Focus on Jesus the way you focus on IG & your life will become better - I know.
I received a message: someone wanted to be my 'sugar daddy' - I only needed to 'talk via text' -no photos, and money would be put into my PayPal - it made me laugh out loud. I declined.
I don't need anymore friends/followers.. my true circle of real friends is tiny, how I like it... quality not quantity.
I will be sharing my art here if interested, not always on social media.
I'm excited for October - how about you? Enjoy your day & this lovely weather!
Below a bit of Halloween fun - the OG monster couple: 'Made for each other.' both 8 x 8 gouache on white
