We met several years ago at a cannabis event (one of our first) & she is actually one of the very few humans I communicate with every few days - if only a short "hey -still alive?" kinda e mail.. lol Patti has been a wheel chair most of her life & has educated me on several issues though out the years - mostly via venting from frustration & I understand (now) why.
Patti uses cananbis for pain & has been a legal medical recipient for years -long before legalization.. at a time when we had to fight, hide & sneak around, when fear mongering within our own Government was at an all time HIGH. I remember her contacting me terribly distressed when S.H. (Initials for Steven Harper also stands for Shit Head) threatened to have doors broken down if we didn't toss our EXCESS cannabis out with the kitty litter, Luckily I assure her- Don't stress - let them fucking try! & assured her if they did it would be a political nightmare for busing a LEGITIMATE patient. The government is in fact responsible for much Of Patti's problems if you ask me, like the fact they give her free opiates -which are destroying her insides & mental state from side effects - yet she can't get her cannabis covered- a much less harmful pain medicine alternative.
& Patt is upset & tired of seeing these places open that she can not access & if you think about it - IF it was YOU, your daughter, mother friend- YOU would get upset too - from blatant ignorance & disrespect it appears. The government, Mayor John Tory & Ontario disabilities are few places I have recently contacted- trying to understand why we are continue to allow NEW dispensaries NOW opening to NOT be wheel chair accessible - not one has even responded. Do you know why this is happening? They DON'T care.
They DON'T fucking understand, they can not relate to life in a wheel chair... If they did I bet the rules would change mighty fast. Let's hope Karma doesn't intervene to show them exactly what this life is like.
Being alienated on a daily basis from being able to participate in simple acts that ALL of us do - simple because of a lack of consideration or intentional lack of consideration is a concern for all Canadians. It's also fucking depressing... most people who suffer from chronic illness or disabilities also suffer from depression - go figure.
I am determined not to exclude my pal Patti - if only with one of these Weeeeeeeeed cards!
I am forever grateful for her shared lessons on a subject I know very little about & take very much for granted, for this education I have become a better human.
Please show some EXTRA TLC & THC to our fellow humans & future friends who use wheels instead of legs to get around. That's the only difference - and for this she is punished daily - due to OUR lack of caring & insisting! If you visit a dispensary that is not wheel chair accessible - perhaps point this OUT to them.
That's a step in the right direction for those that can not walk.
