My next favourite witch- inspired by The Wizard of OZ. Who doesn’t know this wicked witch? As if, I needed an excuse to watch it again… I have noticed overtime, it seems to take less time, yet each viewing I appreciate something new. What a great movie, truly a gift on several levels.
This painting was a personal challenge as I completely painted it with a flat1/2inch 13mm flat - ZEN brush, my preferred brush at the moment. Gouache on watercolour.
I’ve been reading old books, written decades ago and each one has me astounded at the accuracy on subjects & events pertaining to today, now. One suggest by a girlfriend was Herland wrote in 1915 by a feminist Charlotte Perkins who provides much food for thought from a perspective of a society with only women & 3 men 'visit'. It’s an easy, quick read… Charlotte was a pioneer in countless ways. I recommend it to men and women for an enlightening perspective on our current society and it’s many complicated issues.
Another wrote in 1956 talks about the dangers of technology mentioning specifically, cars, radio & television. I myself hadn’t realized cars have made us unable to handle or deal with situations we were able to figure out in the past - like getting places in all kinds of weather… T.V in particular is was suggest would steal time & it does. It’s replaced parenting for many and become a baby sitter - planting our children with ideas before they have time to understand for themselves. Most damaging it has robbed many of fulfilling their destiny - as they sit in front of it, consumed - endless hours, not creating.. not being. It adds to mass depression with constant bombardment of negative news and violent images that our brains become saturated with. No wonder many are tired, overwhelmed and depressed.
Read! Read! Read!
My mind has been changed on countless topics with almost every book I read!
The 'more aware, the more understanding... the more compassionate I feel for others. It’s also fascinating these books were wrote before the invention of personal computers, smart phones, sunglasses that can record our every movement, AI & blasting into space!
Were the authors ‘fortune tellers’ - no… just highly intelligent beings - probably because they didn’t sit around & watch Television all day or distract their minds with others forced opinions.
Halloween is almost here, today another ‘witch’ is on my desk - a sort of editorial painting and Count Dracula for Halloween! Painting, meditation, prayer - in between reading and yes, the occasional television (movie or documentary) I’m only human after all.
BTW.. I've never been much of an Alex Baldwin fan but my heart goes out to him, how sad was the unfortunate accident that took an innocent life. I don't understand why, with such advancement in technology Hollywood STILL uses real guns.
I hope all involved heal, sooner than later.
