What are you baking dearie? Edibles? Cause the men folk like edibles! Gouache on watercolour. 8 x 11.
Snow White - 1937 - wow! Disneys first, full future animation & talk about making a first great impression.
Imagine being the first to witness this marvel back when created- ALL hand drawn, painted - created, no computers at all... even the title work was hand painted- mind blowing when you consider the work involved.
I've lost count how many times I've watched, sometimes I watch & hardly notice the characters -so enthralled with the scenery, this movie has beautiful forest back drops which appear to be water colour as well as the incredible details of the tiny cottage belonging to the tiny woodsmen, I've often thought - I'd love stairs with hand carved owls. It's an interesting tale pondering it in my late 50's since I've been watching it, for as long as I can remember. My attitude about the story has changed but not my appreciation for the animation. The Evil queen is shallow and wants to be the most beautiful (& she is quite attractive)... she hates the princess (her step daughter) simply because she is beautiful. & tries to have her murdered. Snow White is beautiful inside & out... & kind, this kindness saves her from being buried alive so she may still be admired.
The whole prince thing cracks me up .. he's hardly even important, when he shows up and stands before Snow White in her glass casket (like a stud) in Tights & Ego, I laugh out loud - Oh brother. One kiss and off they go, hardly spending an hour together previously, madly in Love - Off to the happily ever after... hahahaha Fantasy. Delightfully animated with dancing, singing & cleaning critters, yes it's a lovely movie - worth the watch - just don't fall for the all the sappy story.
I had a very difficult time deciding what to paint - there's too many moments! Who is your favourite dwarf? Grumpy.
This movie made history countless ways & all the Dwarfs also were rewarded tiny 'Oscars'. Not sure how I feel about that' now, 'Hollywood', Disney & the corporations that run them, have lost 'charm'. Today it's all about the money & the art comes second.. maybe even third. Thankfully, we can watch these classics & reminisce about creating masterpieces instead of 'money makers. If your child has not seen it - introduce them - they too might end up enjoying it for a lifetime.
If you want see ART - moving art, created by many hands, watch Snow White - appreciate it for it's amazing work, beauty, entertainment, songs & adorable story -- even the sappy parts.
