Shit happens! Or…. If you build it they will come.
After much consideration - and a leaky ‘seat’ we decided to rebuild the outhouse from the ground up! & yes, it matches everything else - right to the metal roof. It even has an ease trough on the roof to catch rain water to fill a container on the outside for hand washing (still in the making) also with a lovely raw edge shelf.
Instead of drawing it first, Norm built a mini outhouse as he sometimes prefers - to decide the best way to build the bigger project. The small is just a tiny version of the big - right to the raw edge seat base detail. I love the raw edge wood look. It takes some work though, extra sanding. It is much nicer than the old outhouse and won’t leak when you take leak. Hee hee.
I like ‘raw edge' so much I’m contemplating a new countertop in the same. Add it to the list. Grateful for a ‘live in’ contractor.
With covid cautions - my guests now have a place to go & I don’t have to clean the inside bathroom all the time. We’ll add some art - a few details and a strip of lights for night visits. It’s so comfortable, I’ve used it a few times. It did not take him long at all - old ripped down and new one up in a week.
We now have a place to offer our guests to stay - bear free... all are welcome - no ‘passport’ required.
I’m not sure how I’ll use the little outhouse - I thought it would look neat with a tiny bottle beside it that says “drink me”. I guess I’ll soon find out who’s brave enough to ‘winter’ an outhouse. Lol We like to provide our guests with a true Canadian woods experience. I’m even growing cowboy toilet paper for anyone curious to try.
Always look on the bright side... & the bright side of a ‘lockdown’ life is we have accomplished more in 2 years than I anticipated, I thought it would take at least 5. Just in time for friends to come and see the leaves change and perhaps enjoy some cold weather activities. A safe, clean place to poop & all you can eat eggs - who can beat that?
:)
