On my desk for weeks is a drawing I've penciled but cannot finish.
I've been reading & researching about it for months and don't know where to begin.
With Social media. Several people noticed I came home from California and deleted my 'Georgia Toons' professional Facebook Account. I guess I'm trying to lead by example.. your life will NOT end if you delete your FB account. Those who want to find you will.
ME, a 53 year old woman struggles with social media - it's consuming most days, messages, posts, etc... so imagine how I felt when I read about how terrible it is becoming for 15, 14, 12, 11 year old girls (and younger) who can't stand up and say - "F*ck off- I could care less what you think of me..." to the nasty groups, posts, pages, comments and photos & chances are even if they say it - they would not mean it.
I on the other hand.. lol deleted FaceBook.
Then, l was advised - 'just get it back so no one can take the name-'should I choose to want it again', I did and have very few followers and won't be as active with it, if at all.
I'm still here & am accomplishing more painting.
Young girls are being tricked, fooled intentionally (even drugged) - encouraged to share their personal images online, naked, and in many cases more. ***PARENTS - it's YOU who's getting them the phones & paying the phone bills ? I don't get it & PARENTS are taking less care with internet privileges, kids can use their phones and are anyway. Often these girls believe they are sending images to a boy they have a crush on' - remember that - how powerful crushes are? In fact they are not - or they might be - but in most cases it's become about 'sharing the images' and amongst those not intended to see. How else does one 'put this stuff?
To make a long story short- lives are being ruined - the young women. They do NOT know how to cope or ignore and they are harming themselves more and more.
It's 'not as bad' as they anticipate it will get.
Exposed young women do not share with parents out of fear, humiliation and many are blackmailed. I wish I was making this stuff up ;(. FB apparently is one of the worst breeding ground, they are struggling right now keeping control of hate speech. By the time it is caught & removed - too much damage has been done... screen shots taken - forever out there.
So this joke of 'Dick Picts' is NOT funny, it encourages bad behaviour.
Does my frankness offend? I hope so... but while you are offended by my wording- your daughter might be making the mistake of her beautiful, innocent lifetime while some creep gets off in more ways than one.
To keep quiet would only encourage the problem.
Ladies, Girls - please don't do it.. it's not a good idea.
Guys - you are on your own.
