The Canadian Pine mouse has been spotted in the highlands! Do you see it, above? We ventured through the forest and were lucky to see several Pine mice, one on a stump where it clearly had a feast of pine nuts. I always find it amusing to see these 'leftovers', usually on a stump where you can imagine a critter just sitting and enjoying a nibble, taking it's time, enjoying the scenery. Of course Poppy spied one up in a tree - a pine of course, short needles, hard to see at first until we got a little closer... it appeared very calm, knowing we were not there to hurt it, only view it in it's natural habitat.
We also found one trying to cover itself in a liken -reindeer moss, so sweet! Now that we know where it lives we hope to see more and will look for them each time we go out. The girls enjoyed searching, the big dogs too were exhausted from the walk - quite a workout. The forest inspires creativity!! We found some new pinecones- I could take out a garbage bag and come back with it full after only 30 minutes, I just might, they make wonderful fire starters too.
Have a creative day! look for Pine Mice in the forest!
