You turned the page!! Grover gouache on black 8 x 8
Who remembers this book? Storm loved it - me too! It's called The Monster at the end of the Book, and warns - do not turn the page or we will see the monster at the end of the book! Grover does all he can from preventing us from turning the next page... Storm would giggle and tell me not to turn the page. I spoke in Grovers voice and occasionally we would hesitate... do we turn the page?! Yes!! Storm would yell and laugh and Grover would let out a huge sigh! YOU TURNED THE PAGE!! Curiosity - temptation it's hard to resist. I won't spoil the ending, it's a classic & fun to read with little ones, my copy still sits on my studio bookshelf -it's 29 years old.
It & Elmo, had me pondering - why do we keep turning the page if we think were going to see monsters at the end of this book?! If Global warming is as bad as it is and we are the cause - why don't we stop doing harmful things? It's comical for 'movie stars/icons' to tell the average person (movie goer) to cut back on using plastic straws as they fly to and from country to country, at the drop of an award or gala event (fancy party) on their private jets... it's got to be a joke. We are all aware of the double standards BUT why don't we.. with or without encouragement from entertainment rockstars?
Is it because it's overwhelming? Me recycling won't save the landfills or planet... Or too big a temptation, or a now habit -hard to break. Why do alcoholics who know the damage it can encourage - still struggle with drinking? Why when we are putting on the pounds', bake a cherry poke cake? lol because it's so tasty.
*poke cake: 1 cherry cake mix, 1/3 cup of oil, 1/2 water, 2 eggs - mix.... pour in glass buttered, baking dish 9 x 13
blob on a can of cherry pie filling, poke it down, swirl it around a bit & bake @350 for 35 minutes. YUM!
Little toddlers love this book (adults too) - even though we would see Grover struggle and end up with destruction and beg us not to turn the page we do.. we did. This idea made me giggle - Please stop, turning the page!!
Happily, the book end on a lovely note, also something for us to learn... it might not turn out so bad in the end.
It might not be nearly as bad as we think it will.... We might be worried for nothing!
Tell that to ALL those casualties of war -happening RIGHT now.
I think I'll focus on the happy ending of the book and the lesson I learned from it, show myself some love & not stress over wars I can not control or number plastic straws being use, I'll do my own little part' and know God has control of it all anyway. I'll trust in God - there is a lesson for us all. LOVE each other = EVERYONE or war continues.
For all those who have lost a life, I'll pray we all learn sooner than later, the loss of a loved one to everyone, is all that matters.
Teach your child to love to read! It's proven one of the best gifts you will ever give them.
