All women are beautiful. All women are teachers. Mexican women are strong, imo.
I've been to Mexico a few times and love the people I've met, warm, kind, helpful and fun.
I've been thinking about a friend in particular and wanted to paint a tribute to Mexican women - beautiful, strong, wise & colourful! The button of the peyote is called the crown.
I was reading about Peyote (I have a little plant) and learned it will soon be legalized (hopefully). Right now the plant is suffering due to over picking in its natural habitat.
I have no desire to try peyote, for several reasons. I like my little plant - to look at.
I read it can make you feel nauseous and can keep you high for up to 10 hours - cowabunga. Who wants to be high for 10 hours? Not me.. lots do though. Many do to help themselves when all else fails - especially regarding depression.
Peyote is used as a ritual drug - an exploration of ones self... it has helped many on their journeys. I'm relieved to hear it's going to be legalized. It's legal in Canada to grow the plant. When it's available, Im sure it will be expensive - as it takes a long time to grow! Not like cannabis with a harvest every few months.
It's very unnatural to make natural medicine illegal. It seems the times have changed with education & understanding. We have lost much as a whole' when we alienate other races & their traditions, indigenous people in particular. We lose wisdom, culture and knowledge of many plants and the earth in general.
I feel a positive shift is happening! Each time I read about psilocybin and Peyote (just 2 examples) being re-discovered and used to help heal - it's a new awakening.
I dedicate this portrait painting to Rosemary (Toti) a beautiful person I had the pleasure of meeting - if only online. I think of her often. She is kind, beautiful and strong.
