Inspired by: For Scentimental Reasons This cartoon created in 1949 - Over a decade before I was even born, and still impressive to date! Want to understand how amazing Warner Brother cartoonists/animators were.. reproduce their art. This tiny window, Pepe climbs through on top of the door, was a gag used often. I was intrigued by them as a child, after seen in many old movies, what was the purpose of them, if not for gags/laughs.. always someone peeking through them or listening at them.. I presume they were encouraged for ventilation...? I'm not positive but visually I love them because I associate them with some cartoon character dangling through them.
This cartoon, Pepe is made aware -He 'Smells' an is shocked, this also amusing as it reminds me of me... my son or significant others telling me - did you put on deodorant today? My reply usually - No... it's bad for my body, sweat.. human perfume is a fact of life & I disagree with covering it up, especially to the degree we do. Every time I use deodorant I get lumps under my armpits, which explained by my Dr. is due to my sensitivity to deodorant. So.. no, it's not worth it. I'm with Pepe... to love me, is to smell me. hahaha Poor Pepe, shocked at the awareness of his lingering aroma - promptly leaves the scene and shoots himself in the head (so we are led to believe).
Another great moment is when Pepe turns Blue - dipped in paint and his blue built body, is sudddenly attractive to the female kitty he has been chasing - no longer looking as lovely, after she fell in water. The tables turn.
Warner Brother Cartoons taught me resilience & Love... someone is aways chasing love.
They always come back. Shot, crushed by a piano, blown up by dynamite, run over by a train, falling off a cliff... it's endless the ways they were destroyed only to be fine the next moment, Amen. Bugs being the king (of course). Pepe never gives up.. always looking for love and expecting those he has 'eyes for' to fall head over heels - Pepe is all about Positive thinking. Bouncing through life at a slow pace - passing everyone who is otherwise scrambling!
I've got some Pepe in me. You?
It's been a rough week... not due to social media crap, mostly because someone I love is not feeling well, this puts other 'trivial matters' into perspective. Whats the point? I need to Ponder this some days & I'm no exception to the rule - some days are harder than others. I'm not about to lie & pretend HERE or anywhere else that life is all is hunky-dory - it's not. It's life. I hope others do relate & can see - Keep painting!!! Keep going.. just like Pepe.
What's the point? I needed to remember - I am Pepe & will continue to hop along... always remaining hopeful for love (as we all should), laughter and beautiful spring days like today! Pepe Le Pews optimism is infectious (better than catching covid), I can't think of a better way to start a Saturday... inspired by a skunk.
