We started our day with an adventure, some forest bathing for the girls & I. It’s a great time to walk in the forest, winter does not allow easily due to snow and early summer can be a jungle.
Such vibrant greens and new life all around. Today was perfect.
New death as well, a giant pine toppled, it makes me sad to see such a towering living beast uprooted, roots not as deep as perceived - taken down by the wind.
Upon closer inspection it appeared healthy on top, yet you can see the base rotting away… eaten over the years by insects. We lost a pine tree off the driveway last year & just last week another had started to shift & had to come down, it should have probably been cut down long ago.
You have to be careful walking in the woods, I tripped (usually do at least once lol) and Ginger took it as a sign to rest and jumped on my lap!
I took it as a sign to head back. It was a workout to say the least, Ginger & Daisy have put on the pounds (me too just a few)— we’ll be walking.
It's been a difficult past couple of weeks, the death of a friends son made both Norm and I really upset - heart breaking to hear a friend say such words, I don't feel I was very supportive through my own tears. Such difficult lessons we are all learning during this pandemic. Another friend of mine is in hospital after emergency surgery, not allowed visits except from her mom & she only gets to go 2x week for 2 hours- I know how heart breaking that would be. Difficult lessons and lessons of appreciation.
I am grateful to walk the woods, even with - wet runners & black flies and overly excited dogs. Grateful for every moment.
