Gouache on black paper 8 x 8 I don't know what the cat skull said but it has this blue kitty contemplating & the jack-lantern amused. Cats on pumpkins are a favourite painting pastime this time of year! As we get closer to Halloween. I was watching an interesting documentary on witches'. Witches turns out were just wise women of the woods.. mostly.
They kept cats and brooms because they kept a clean house, free from mice & dirt. They knew what herbs to use to heal... uneducated others assumed they had powers - when what they really had was knowledge. Quite often a husband who wanted a new wife would claim his current wife was a witch in order to 'get rid' of her.
The history is fascinating & shocking. Where would humanity be without 'witches', witch Dr.'s or Shaman, who have had the knowledge, courage & know how' to educate & heal since the beginning of time.
Also below, a card from a fellow cartoonist, I could not resist a collaboration! I love her work & find it very amusing.. you can find her on Instagram : Violette Torrance - check out www.ghoultime.com It's been enjoyable watching Violette' progress with her art the past few years! Tis that time of year, painting Halloween card concepts, I'll share them the next few days. I was watching a woman discourage halloween movies for children (specifically Hocus locus 2)... in hindsight -
I agree. We use to watch every new horror flick out - I ponder now- not one of those movies enriched my life, they showed me things - once seen can not be unseen. I don't think we should subject kids to these films anymore - let them decide when older if they want to watch. I was reading about a current film that has movie goers vomiting (?) and leaving the movie mid way - yikes, no thanks. I watched a few minutes of a couple of "family ' halloween films on Netflix & found them to be visually frightening, so I turned them off. They have come a long way since the classic Dracula films. Anyhow - it's just my opinion but if I had to do it over- I wouldn't watch or let kids watch.
I find books & my imagination more powerful anyway - & controllable. Halloween is a very imaginative time & there are many images to paint & enjoy! I do reccomend The Great Punkin patch with Charlie Brown & Snoopy - I was disappointed to read that Apple T.V has the rights to it now and it will not be shown on Public t.v ;( apparently you can see it a couple of days for free on apple. Either way- it can be time for kids to be creative & enjoy themselves!
