This cute little guy was a tiny treat to paint. Love in every stroke of fur.
Have you heard of shrinkflaction? How could you not if you purchase groceries, we first noticed it a few years ago with bacon.. same package, less bacon -same price. Now I see it everywhere & it makes me mad.... why? Besides getting less for the same price or a higher price - it's sneaky. Sneaky is like lying. Im not a fan of sneaky behaviour, I think it will backfire for many retailers. There are other options and people will chose them - rather than to be sneakily - mislead. Cereal boxes have gotten taller -to appear bigger but contain less, start to pay attention to amount, then price. Potatoe chips, frozen goods, chocolate bars... gouache. I ordered some Windsor & Newton gouache and it came in new tubes, they look bigger but I noticed there is less. Same price. Companies have to pay for new package design and production of new packaging but I guess they know it will pay off in profits.
They should tell us - they are shrinking... Now in a smaller creative package with less product and a new higher price!
Would less people purchase, probably. Perhaps it's good, less crap will be consumed - are you aware many cereals are banned in other parts of the world for being said to cause cancer & overall bad health. I know people who eat a bowl every night before bed - sounds like an addiction to me. :) Grocery stores, over pricing - bread for example with 15 ingredients, many now make their own now, its easy, fast, healthier and cheaper.
Who doesn't like fresh bread out of the oven?
We make our own pizzas now - after years of buying frozen (or from a pizzeria), we make our own cookies and cakes.
It' not about saving money as it is eating better, added ingredients -used to stretch shelf life & make items appear 'prettier' or product amount increases, have harmful long term side effects we might not even be aware of for years to come. Wood pulp in Parmesan? Preservatives, dies, emulsifiers, hydrogenated vegetable oils, BHA - BHT... Aspartame's! It's endless the list of things put in our food that can cause cancer, make you fat or destroy organs... a slow death, death by potato chip (yellow food dye). Cancer is big business after all. I have '0' faith in the FDA after proof of decades of approving substances -only to have them pulled off the market decades later, after proven to cause cancer or worse.
Hmmm... what one comes to mind first: Baby Powder & the company knew it, long before it was pulled. Shame on them.
Shrinkflation will continue as long as we PAY for it. Stop. Stop paying more for less.
Switch to a cheaper brand (& healthier) or learn to make your own.
Somethings, we'll have little say over - like my gouache, unless I find a brand comparable - I might switch... but other items we should all be thanking these sneaky companies- forcing us to switch to healthier options or create our own is better for our health, and we'll save money. If anything, governments should make them announce their sneaky tactics right on the box in big bold letter: Now > Less for More $ !!
Would you continue to support these companies? The choice is yours.
Have a creative day! Time to bake a meat pie & continue painting 'Hail Mary".
