Part One.. 'The Base' or 'fist base' - lol
I needed a new bed. I was sleeping on a 26 year old worn, ripped, stained, the springs could be felt with every roll - it was time - & I decided for smaller bed.
Do you work in bed? I often woke myself up because I'd knock a book or something off my bed at night, drawings, pencils, snacks.. toy for the girls even kibble for 'Mrs. Poppy' -enough - I just need a good sleep. Right? So I started looking for a day bed- I've slept in one several times & had a more than comfortable sleep so why take up the room with another Queen that you don't sleep on? Twin for me BUT... I couldn't find one I liked for under $1300. and even then it still was not what I wanted.. I really liked this:

& EVEN if I could afford the bed- finding it and getting it here would cost me as well - so I decided to design it. I can do this because I live with a very talented carpenter- who happens to be my husband of 26 years & WE still try to live together, work together & make each others lives a little easier for the most part. We certainly know how difficult it has been at times. So I asked 'would you? & he said 'yes*. This is the base below - I can't believe how perfect it is to what I wanted so far! Solid wood with knots & it' glides as is I was playing with the puppy!! & also treated myself to unbelievable sheets, a friend introduced me to GOOD sheets years ago -if you can afford them, I highly recommend it. I like at least 450 thread count - flannel & perfect timing - it was chilly last night. I have stairs for the girls Poppy & Ginger - what a great sleep we had! Daisy on her new dog pillow on the floor.
I can't get over how much room there is with a twin mattress - it's just a mind set- big house, big furniture... 'comfort should always be key. As you get older there might be many reasons you do not want to sleep with your partner - snoring is one of the most common reasons. The arthritis in my hands is so severe if you bump them, even gently (why I don't handshake either) I am jolted awake... even Norm agrees he gets a better sleep now - it was difficult at first - the MINDset' that 'YOU must sleep together' is just that.
SLEEP where YOU sleep best. This was part one.. the sides and back I have to paint.
I'm beyond pleased, I was touched... it really is lovely - wait until you see it finished.
I am very grateful & told him so... he is too - look how much money I saved him! lol
This was work AFTER working all day, and it went together like a puzzle, very well made with TLC - this is 'furniture... one that happens to be calling me now - lol ... come read, come snuggle, dream of what your drawing next!
Thank you to Norm - * this was fate- when he agreed to make my bed- he didn't have anything else to make really.. after I gave him my drawings & said I'd patiently wait a week (hee hee) he got an order for #20, 6 foot coffins.. which he loves building, 'Toe Pinchers'..
I looked at him and reminded: Nothing gets done until my bed.
Now I'll take my time with the rest of the design and let him build his coffins in peace.
I'll let him Rest in Peace.. hahaha for now.
