The birds are chirping! Bird a.k.a "Sweet Cheeks" is doing great, he's learned to be careful around the cat & amazingly enough, if the cat goes too near the cage - Arrow chases him. Bird lets us know when he wants out to fly'.He loves Storm & hates the theme song for 'House" lol I made him some 'treat sticks', we were getting them from the pet store but like everything I didn't like ingredients. The sticky stuff to hold the seeds was not great ingredients so I made my own from the empty treat sticks. I just brushed on honey, I figure it can't hurt him - all natural & dipped them in his seeds' and then put them by the fireplace to dry, on parchment -which worked wonderfully. He seems to like them and now I don't have to buy them.
That silly tiny amazing little bird is back - moving into a 'pufferfish' I've had hanging outside forever, my mom brought it back from a vacation when I was in my 20's -probably now illegal to do so. His chirp sounds fake it's so loud & cool - as if a sound effect, he's bold and fun to watch I'm considering a painting. Humming birds are also back and already fighting over the 3 feeders! A big robin searches for worms to feed her tiny brood behind the garage in a nest we can see little beaks pop out of. Bluejays are exploring the new trellis we just put up for squash & the grackles are back too (I hope they move on soon). Lastly a Woodpecker likes to tap on the Chicken coop sign' -wakey wakey - is there any better way to wake than with Birdsong? I think not.
I thought I'd do some foraging today -I'll share tomorrow my treasures found in the woods.
Storm found morel mushroom! He made me the best brunch after church - Eggs Benedict with fried morel, yikes- better than a restaurant, I won't be requesting it often albeit my mind is already craving but my waistline has grown this winter (what else is new) so I'm being careful - a few days of foraging and enjoying nature will be a good start to losing a few pounds. Hopefully. Below - what I'm painting today -Spring ' a fun way to start this chilly morning before the sun warms everything up.
