Mermaid Aurora. 8 x 12 gouache on watercolour
The Aurora borealis is absolutely one of the most sensational visual natural wonders, I've been fortunate enough to witness, a couple of times in my lifetime. The best 'show was in Saskatchewan although I've seen a few in Ontario as well. I decided to play around with painting them, there are several 'How to' videos on YouTube, enough to get the idea of How which I then just decided to go with my own ideas. Anyone who sees, will know what I was trying to recreate.. I ended up enjoying the process so much I then painted several cards with the same idea. I'm sure they won't be my last Aurora skies.

It was a terrific opportunity to use some of my metallic paint! Unfortunately, they did not reproduce well when scanned so you can't see the glistening sky, highlights in the trees or orange glow in the fox fur but they are there. Each sky turned out completely different as the paint has a mind of it own at times and does what it wants. Purple, blue & green are colours I prefer (obviously) one look at my paint pallet tells you so. One thing about gouache is is dries a different shade, noticeable more with black paper than white, so I enjoy watching it dry and change and sometimes create the unexpected. I've painted enough night skies to anticipate results but am always pleased when it takes a turn not expected.
If you have never tried painting the Aurora borealis skies I highly recommend you do...
How magnificent are Gods creations? How can anyone not be inspired by such a amazing sight?
I read this morning (ACIM) and want to share because I thought it was beautiful - to go along with the beauty of the sky:
Father, Your Mind created all that is, Your Spirit entered into it, Your Love gave life to it.
We are all Created to create.
