'Ask, Seek, Knock. twirling art 9inches acrylic on wood.
Yesterday was the eclipse and unlike Niagra falls - there was only us to witness this magnificent miracle of God. Storm and I watched, there was much overcast which added an element to to the experience, it didn't get as dark as I've now seen on line but it was pretty dark... as the sun peeked out with the clouds I kept thinking of the Cheshire Cat -smiling down & saying : You're all mad down there. We have to be, to be witnessing all we are during these time, I watched a video on social media and the man in the woods said - "if you are not disturbed by it, you are insane.." .
The things we see - educational, fascinating, endearing & funny but every now and then I see things and think - how has that enriched my life - frigging social media! A perfect example that has me wanting to take a break : A video starts with a big dog (bully of some sort) running around the car and someone screaming, more screaming "she's got a gun" then the woman (not seen on camera) apparently trying to shoot the dog - accidentally shoots her own child in the leg. You don't see any of it but hear & read what happened. The narrator remarks: This woman is the scum of the earth'... & tons jump on that bandwagon... how often does social media encourage just that. We have no idea of the actual events only, a few seconds caught on camera. Immediately I was concerned for the dog, then the child, then the woman. Scum of the earth? Who is this person posting' to judge a few seconds on anyones life let alone classify her as 'the scum of the earth?
I think as a mom Id be terrified to see a big dog chasing my kid - and can't say I would not behave the same, I don't own a gun but I'd be frightened and try to defend my kid. Perhaps this woman had a negative experience with dogs, many are frightened of dogs. A young boy recently lost his life to two dogs, devastating for all involved, the 2 dogs, now euthanized. The video was a misfortunate accident all around, for all involved and frankly the only 'scum of the earth' was the person sharing others misfortunes online for 'Likes'. No wonder social media depresses many. One of the funniest things I've seen lately is Trump riding a eagle (while doing his dance moves) that swoops down into a lake to pick up Joe Biden. Creativity is impressive on line, I'm also infatuated by this tiny dog (chihuahua) that howls with all it's might till it shakes ... Dogs are the best. I started questioning my own actions... why even go on as often as I do? Out of a moment of boredom - it's not worth it, if seeing crappy humans at their worst sticks in my mind. What am I 'seeking'? Not that.
I don't want to judge anyone on a few second clip. There's also a trend of filming homeless, drug addicted humans -struggling to just walk, usually with commentary by whom ever is recording that is negative, cold & cruel- seriously though... what could they possibly really know about the person & how they got there.
Who is considered 'The Scum of the earth?" Those suffering or those profiting off of the suffering of others?
I am reminded by it all: 'Teach only Love', as that is what we are - how God created us, created by LOVE.
I'm inspired to paint a twirling Cheshire Cat, after some much needed sunshine snuggling with the girls. BTW - Daisy was the only one who seemed to notice the eclipse - she looked right up at it' a couple of times, thankfully the clouds probably protected her eye sight. The plan: More seeking nature, less seeking social media.
