Tis the Season for mixed feelings fa la la la la, la la la la.
Not long now and it will be Chrismas day.
1/2 of me is excited the other cant wait for it to be over. Literally.
Norm put up the tree and decorated and has placed presents under it.
I added a few of my favourite decorations to the tree and put up the nativity.
As Christmas draws closer I look forward to it being OVER.
It's a time when we watch movies, see adds and it's all 'just perfect'. The lights, glitter, outfits, new toys, turkey, tables happy times spent with family during the holiday season. Not quite. Instead many are reminded of family feuds', those already gone, not having what you think you need, trying to please too many at one time, peer pressures, not having enough money to make others "happy" there is never 'enough $' I think, as I read of a billionaire couple in a murder suicide today. Many think it is the 'worst time' for suicide, it is not- it's the spring... I would not be shocked if statistics don't show a few Christmas dinner set it off in motion though. This past week, in anticipation of the holidays I've had several mention "family" because "it's the holidays "- I get it, but what's changed - other than the date on a calendar? Some sound excited and others not so much.
No, I'm not partaking in fakes flakes this season.
Call 'Me the Grinch for a good reason!
Fake smiles, and pleasant chatter to only find out later - you don't really mater!
Plastic trees, Styrofoam snow & fakers smiles all a glow.
Ho Ho Ho - Hell No!
If there is one thing I learned by now I choose who I spend my time with because of how they make me feel when I am with them- not because of holiday pressure.
Add to this Holiday Merriment this condition'- that many would rather I did not speak of... only they do NOT understand what it is like living 'with it', so it is really easy for others to judge and remark how they think one should deal with such things.
Can you eat a meal without your face contorting to the point your throat pulls tight trapping the food in it? Does every meal feel like your going to choke, constantly?
Is this difficult for you to read or relate to ? Imagine living with it.
Can you carry a conversation without your own face pulling to one side so powerful if you are walking you will lose your own balance? Can you laugh or even smile without getting jolt of excruciating paint from the top of your head to your thigh - just on one side? Can you hold a paint brush or fork now that your one hand won't bend at all and the seconds on the way? Can you normal wear boots or shoes? I can't.. so my desire to "Dress up" for the holidays also has diminished slightly. Slightly, because the other 1/2 does enjoy it.
If this is not what 'your day' is like and you are in the Christmas spirit - then HO HO HO! Seasons Greetings!
What do I like about Christmas? The glitter, the snow.. the kids smiling and waving at the display.. the thought that people are nicer this time of year. Christmas cards- I do love them -I'll admit, sending them and getting them. Genuine wishes of love from people, some family but mostly friends. Homebred cookies. Chocolate. Seeing Daisy open her gift (she can't wait).. Traditional decor, the lights! The logs of fire crackling with christmas carols in the background. Classic feel good Christmas Movies'.. drawing elfs, reindeer and Christmas decorations in general! Gingerbread men & women! Warm drinks with whipped cream. Snuggly blankets with Poppy (she has a new Christmas blanket - she opened it early) & all the COLORS! The dogs make any occasion merrier- as does my bird and cat - We sing Christmas carols during the day as we paint and play. It is also a time when I do get my painting/art/crafting supplies- which always leaves me excited for the new year to come, once Christmas is gone.
There's also the one other little detail that you hardly see or hear about anymore.
Jesus.. the idea behind Christmas.
Some will be sitting in Church again this Christmas - putting on a 'good show', do they practice Jesus's message? Hardly.
Ho Ho Ho - it's all for show.
Shame on me, for behaving this way at Christmas...
Shame on you for behaving the way you do the rest of the year.
I am sending time with several people over the holidays and looking forward to each one.
My days of faking are over. I'm excited now, to be pantingly first 'Hippo for Christmas', it is by far the cutest Holiday jingle in my opinion.
2018 - I'm looking forward to some HOOPLA! My heart & brain have been studying and are excited to start some new social experiments! :D
Be Good to YOURSELF this Christmas.
