Just another awesome wonder of one of the Creators creations.. Storm bought me the coolest plant' for my birthday!
Storm gave me a very dry, crumbly, delicate ball of plant material at my birthday lunch. It resembled a tiny tumbleweed! I told him, just days before - I was thinking of tumbleweeds! Thinking it would look great painted on a black background... and here he drops a tiny tumble weed in my hand. You can see the roots, it's as light as a feather & I know if I squeeze it would be crushed. The included instructions advise us to put it in water & wait... I had the perfect container, put water in, dropped the plant inside and we waited and watched - amazed when this very dead ball opened into a soft, GREEN flower by the end of the evening - resembling a funky thin cactus (as above). A miracle. Actually it is considered the resurrection plant, because of how incredibly it returns back to life. Witnessed with my own eyes, I'd never think the two images were one in the same, felt with my own hands - the tiny miracle is awesome. It's officially called: The Rose of Jericho it can survive years in the dried state - add a tiny bit of water & it's back to lush green life. Now removed from the bowl in a dish with rocks, a fascinating addition to our home. I kept the water as it's considered holy by many & why not... All water is holy! Perfect timing with Easter around the corner. I love it, one more of Gods amazing creations! This was the perfect gift to remind us = Jesus is our greatest gift. Created to create. Oh Canada... what's happening? Just For laughs is Canadian Tradition, for as long as I remember there has been a 'just for laughs festival' & it is as it states - just for laughs! & It has been cancelled... at a time when Canadians need more to laugh about, not less. 'Victor has been the mascot and his big bold greenness & massive smile -made us smile for a long time .. Victor is crying today, as are too many comedians. I've known many comedians & have always thought it sad- most feel they won't make it "big' unless they leave Canada, example - Jim Carey (one of many) & it's usually true. It's going to be harder now, one less venue for our funniest to express themselves. Victor is sobbing. I hope it's just temporary and it returns because Canadians NEED to laugh, more than ever. Victors background is a bold Gold as you can tell. A quick chat about metallic paint experience! I have tried several there are MANY to choose from in all price ranges and below is my account with a couple so you can decide the direction you might want to do. I do not remember exactly what price I paid for some of these only approximately, I'll include the name if you want to look them up & remember: if anywhere but Canada - you'll probably have a lower price (Thanks J.T.). 2 were purchased directly from the company, another DeSerres (Canadian art supplies -good prices) and Amazon. 1. The first pallet you see what the lowest Ive paid -about $10 for the pale which I used for a while and have had for over 7 years... It's by Yasutomo. There is little paint in tiny pans but a nice variety of shades, a fun introduction but as vibrant' as I hope for -I still use them for playing with ideas in my sketch books or have handy if teaching others and don't want to use my good stuff - it is a fine set to start with, terrific for beginners & kids. DeSerres
2. Komorebi (2 sets) rectangle pans with a lot of paint! I've had this other set also about 7 years and used it a lot -the gold lovely - it's what I used on Victor and I use these for backgrounds mostly, the second set I've not even opened -classic metallic -the pan size is large and it lasts a long way. DeSerres -*note- as they were purchased a while back they might no longer be available at DeSerres. 3. I wanted to include the image of these brushes, mostly for fine line& detail with my metallic paint, especially my last set-they give a beautiful delicate fine line and hold a nice amount of paint, I use them for all fine hair/fur in my paintings. 4.& 5. Artistro -I bought this set last year off Amazon and have been very pleased -the 6 chameleon colours are very cool! I like one in particular so much 'magic' I'm going to try to purchase it on its own, I love how the coluor dramatically changes in light from deep purple to bright silver about $23. I recommend this set for anyone it covers well on black & white. 6. Beam Paints - Beam is Canadian and handmade goodness, it is a higher end paint and I only have the gold metallic' but it's by far one of the best quality and covering 'gold I've tried. The hole Canadian thing with paint made and put in wood slices I also like - creative, functional, decorative packaging. Im not sure of individual prices but it is more expensive -my set cost close to $100. This set I'd gift to others in other countries, I love shopping & sharing Canadian. Go see (on the www.) the GreatLakes pine pallet! They also make sampler/travel cards that last a lot longer than you think. These paints are a treat. 7. Windsor Newton -Silver and gold -I've tried both and flew through the gold. Good quality paint (my preferred gouache) lasts a long time- when your tube is almost empty -do yourself a favour and squeeze it all into some container (like I have) you can keep and re hydrate it no problems, the problem is-IF/when it gets too dry in the tube-good luck getting it out, you may as well toss it. It's anywhere from $10 - $23 a tube. I do with is ALL W & N gouache now as too many times it's friend I the tubes. 8.Lisilinnka this paint has been my most expensive purchase to date, I am (mostly) very happy with it as it is top quality lovely vibrant paint. With one drop I'm amazed at the consistency & coverage, it will probably be my last purchase as it will last a while. The pans are a nice size, the packaging lovely (as previously mentioned) and the details so far have been inspiring & encouraging to play more'. I did order the Prism and after much trial and asking others their opinion -it appears I was sent the wrong paint 'stardust', I'm in the process of correcting this as the one pan was $46. (more Canadian) and I want what I ordered, I'll keep you posted*. Other than the wrong paint - this set is perfect, they do have a few more colours I'll consider (deep purples and greens) as so far this is the best quality & coverage. * I contacted the Company, they apologized for the error and are sending me the correct paint a..s.a.p & I can keep the stardust. Terrific paint & customer service. I hope that helps... Have you tried some metallic paint? Let me know what your favourite is! Created to create! Time to paint!! Clowning around! 8 x 8 gouache on black
Blue background or not! ...Not - but it's too late now. I'm enjoying exploring my glitter paint - and it takes practice like anything to master - I will preserve. The site I purchased the paint from has tutorials - mostly including betta Fish -which I'll attempt but first I just wanted to play. Sometimes I paint the background and think: I should have left it as is. New material/supplies are like fuel for creativity! In this case new paint but it can be anything.. usually I'm just restocking my paint but every now & then I'll try something new. I have clay I purchased but still not prepared to open, I have to make sure it's a day when my hands are feeling fantastic (fantastic is pushing it but you know what I mean). The Clown Fish below has a lot of metallic paint but you hardly notice, no matter as it will make the art all the more enjoyable to be seen in person. Today, I celebrated another year - here on this planet. What an incredible 60 years it's been. The lessons I've learned - we've all learned, give thanks for every one! I've lost enough people in my life to understand how easily one day can change everything - so be grateful for each human, especially those who continue to grace us with their presence decade after decade - I know a few! Thank YOU! My son took me on an adventure - a day out to explore, eat - pick up some art supplies and just wander, we had several laughs and it was an enjoyable day all around... until I got home & the girls let me know they missed me & clung to my side all evening. 60 & my strongest relationship is with God & Jesus! YAY! I communicate with God daily & give thanks constantly, without even thinking about it.. it comes naturally - as it should. I couldn't think of anywhere else (at this point in my life) that I'd rather be mentally, emotionally, spiritually ... so I guess it's all going according to Gods plan. What's in my future? What ever I want! All things are possible with God- took me 60 years to KNOW this. Storm asked if I had any new goals' as a matter of fact I do: To serve, to be who God expects me to be, to actively seek joy in all & appreciate it daily, to paint more & share & continue to inspire others to be creative. To let others know I think of them and appreciate them & am blessed for them in my/our lives. To not worry about tomorrow but focus on the gift of TODAY. Other than that - it's just another day, marking another year & I'm happy to still be here'. Give thanks for every day. Next Oh Canada or: Hahaha-waaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Fox grass 8 x 8 gouache on black
These grasses are off my deck, I love them - tall & green & lush in summer and still tall (yellow) all through winter! They are painted with my new paint, the gold makes them pop & feel a bit airy' especially against the black background. I now have several metallic paints, later in the week I'll share the differences including price and paintability, hopefully it will take out some of the guess work for those interested in adding them to your arsenal of art supplies... heehee. OMGosh... How invigorating to see the sunshine -before 7 a.m.! YAY! Yesterday we sat on the deck for over an hour in just a T-shirt (pants too-lol) absorbing every Sunday we could, the girls had their noses in the air -taking I all the smells with the snow melting, the expected rain will only clean everything up. Paintings await! Created to create. Bear adventures.. here's a few I was playing with, above Blue spores for a blue bear... Psilocybin help with depression research shows, pay attention - it will become more prevalent in the months to come! A safer alternative then many anti-depressants without the harmful side effects. I like the all blue bear, he's inspired another painting idea - for another day!
I'm not sharing everything on social media simply because I don't feel like it, some days I appreciate the break from the mega distraction called Instagram. I don't know how people do it - those who have Facebook, Instagram & TicToc... must not have much time for actual life. I tell myself - I'll just go check things out and easily an hour passes - seeming like minutes, time I could be creating. Below is a painting I started and disliked, I finished it anyway -it will help the next time I attempt the same idea -IF. I wasn't pleased with the direction it was going but like the concept'. Even (mostly) our mistakes teach us the fastest -what not to do again. I was impatient - more layering was needed. & below that- the stumps bear - I also became bored with, I like the pose but the rest was lacking. Or maybe I just didn't want to paint. It was also on my desk when my cat spilled water, you can notice near the face where it started to bleed'... some paintings like those two (not blue bear) ended up as kindling. The important lesson to myself - is every painting is a lesson- what to do, not to do. The more you practice -the more you learn! The next will absolutely be better - as we should be every day. It's to be a balmy 14 today... I can't wait for the snow to melt off the deck! The dogs- excited as I am can smell the spring getting ready to spring! Created to create. Just a curious chimp & me, playing with painting backgrounds. 8 x 8 on Gouache
We watched Adam Sandler in Spaceman - I enjoyed it, it's getting mixed reviews but I thought it was - thought provoking & well done. So expressive is his travelling companion - especially the eyes - the animation is fantastic - is it even called animation, probably not, I guess it's CGI. One word description: Deep. What an actor he's turned out to be - wonderful in all genre - from silly to serious, he is an impressive human. For decades he's entertained us proving himself to be creative, talented, intelligent, resourceful and ambitious... I look forward to all he creates. I think I'll paint that creature. Created to create Enjoy this day The Lord has made. This handsome kitty is inspired by a photo off instagram of a friends cat. The cannabis & fur has delicate dabs of metallic paint, mostly noticeable in the bowtie but photos and scanning will never display it as it is on paper. I made the mistake of leaving this on my desk, my own cat spilled a lot of water & the glitter lifted off, interestingly enough it hardly effected the gouache. My cat has a thing for water, not sure what I'll do to try to keep him off my desk, no point being angry with him as he is not aware of the aggravation he is causing, and he's adorable.
I was reading about immigration & how many who come are leaving.. it explained how in their countries Canada Propaganda shows only the lovely side of Canada- doesn't everything though? Enticing strangers with promises of owning the dream- or fantasy is more like it. Many come with their life saving in hopes of finding a better life and job and soon realize - it is out of reach' because EVERYTHING is so expensive here, (as you are aware) & by the time they pay rent, utilities, taxes, personal expenses, transportation, food - they have very little left over for fun (like most Canadians) and are left feeling always exhausted - sound familiar? Any 'dream' of owning a home in Canada is soon realized as exactly that - a dream. Once they run out of money they often return 'defeated and poorer' than when they started... & embarrassed to return home. At least at 'home' they can afford to live, eat and not endure -30 with the windchill. It's a problem though. Canada is not what we think it is or was... one only has to read this blog to know I love Canada & being Canadian but the past decade in particular - Canada had changed & Trudeau seems to be promising - & that's it. Even proud Canadians have to face facts - things are getting out of control - just visit the many tent cities popping up, go ask the food banks -how's it going? I'll vote conservative next but I don't expect much change, other than faces. Canada appears a rich happy country but it's a façade' - Canada is a country of people in debt, struggling & tired... Over worked and underpaid. With the immigrants in particular, employers KNOW there's many to follow and replace someone for a more affordable substitution & they do. Canadians are leaving too... why stay when you see the direction things are going? House prices will ONLY continue to rise, you are in denial if you think otherwise. Why pay $3,000.000 million for a townhouse here when you can buy a frigging villa someplace warm and afford to eat? & educated professionals are leaving too - too many taxes, overpriced everything, low paying jobs. Why stay in a country that has proven if we don't behave' (to their wishes) & speak up (peacefully) about it - you can be denied access to YOUR own bank account & thrown in jail & trampled by police horses - until proven innocent. Not for an emergency reasons or justification but to prove a point & that, Trudeau did. Dr.s and professionals are leaving our already struggling system along with the immigrants. Like it or not... that's not good for Canada. & - AND lets not forget control, not letting us read what we want, watch what we want or say' (ask Jordan Peterson) what we feel.. more laws with more control for the government and less freedoms for Canadians. Is Trudea to blame? No. WE ARE for allowing it to progress as it has, we are -for enabling him & his like minded... who are obviously VERY out of touch with what actual daily LIFE is for the average Canadians - not flying to Jamaica for a vacation on the tax payers expense. Like politicians that tell Canadians, 'just stop your Disney subscription if struggling...' or the CEO telling Canadians to 'have cereal for dinner' to save money! Boy oh boy - easy to say as they jet set and dine in 5 star Michelin restaurants around the world. Don't want immigrants coming to Canada? Careful what you wish for. They are a huge percentage of the work FORCE keeping Canada running somewhat smoothly. Thank you for your service. I painted Jesus walking on water a while ago. His proportions are all wrong but the image makes me smile. I was thinking about what God was teaching Jesus in the wilderness for 40 days.. imagining letting him know he could walk on water! With the only 'witness' being nature & a bear... I still have not been a 'witness' to this miracle but believe it happened.
With God, everything is possible. So no, my Jesus is not perfect on paper... He is perfect teaching us all how to LOVE and to paint him (anyway) is to worship and praise & enjoy myself, to keep my focus on God & Jesus is always a pleasure. I've read a few things over the years about prayer but 2 have stuck with me: ~If the only prayer you ever say is: Thank You... it will be enough. Thank the Lord for everything as it IS the Lord who provides everything, starting with our life & waking up each new day. & the other is (from ACIM) The only prayer one need ever say is simply: Thy Will Be Done. According to the Bible: God knows the numbers of hair on our head and every day of our lives, who am I to doubt otherwise. This world day of prayer is much needed. Take some time today and offer some prayer for all those struggling that they might 'Seek & Find' the Peace that comes with trusting God. Or... Just say: Thank You. Who's ready to Leap into March? To leap into spring!? ...Melted snow and muddy paws? We are.
What will you do today with this EXTRA day we've been given? Who's looking forward to warmer days? It's a chilly one today! While painting this, I kid you not.. I watched it pour rain (yay - melting the snow) then it hailed, snowed and ended with a blizzard as it got dark.. March is coming in like a lion. This painting has glitter on it, hard to distinguish when scanned or photographed. I think, Tigger is also now 'open domaine' -the same time as Steam Boat Willies due date was up... I'm not positive, I read a few articles on the topic at the time. Spring is around the corner only a couple of weeks away! Happy 'Leap Day' in this Leap year! Created to create All that glitters is not gold... but it could be metallic paint! Weee - I have new paint & it's exciting.. a new toy to play with and explore. I decided to treat myself to a very nice paint for my birthday (it arrived a week early & I was not waiting, the paint is from https://lisilinka.com. Made in Germany. First I'll add the paint is expensive (more so than most) but after watching demonstrations on social media and the site and reading positive reviews I went for it -deciding on the set Holo-Flowers... deciding what set to choose was difficult - another I like is Northern Lights, I also purchased Prism for $45. a single pan & was sent for free Hazel which was nice, since it's another full size pan -*that being said even with free shipping - when it arrived here I was charged another $40. for duty! Yeah Canada.... they will take our money every way they can. It's here so.. I cleaned my desk and opened the paint!
The colours are lovely & the quality is as promised, I used the swatch cards provided -they dry even better than when applied with fantastic coverage. Watered down - the amount of glitter that swirls still was impressive - it will take some practice to master the level of glitter to apply. The Prism is exactly what I expected and changes colour when the light hits it, just using it I find relaxing, watching all the glitter swirl - Today Im using the one colour to paint an entire painting.... playing with is the fastest way to learn - nothing too serious yet'. Pleased with the paint - the packaging is equally impressive, albeit it can first appear excessive' - it's as though it was created for my hands! I can grasp & hold the containers & they all have magnets in them so they snap' open and closed very easily. Individual paint pans also have magnets so you could customize your own. They won't fall out of your paint holders -that's happened to everyone (no doubts) who's used water colour paint pans'. Packaging is attractive & my creative side thinks they can probably be used & recycled easily. The paint also came with a tiny water dropper -as you only need one drop, I do find it a bit difficult with arthritis but that's fine as I have several paint droppers called Pipettes' (from DeSerres). From the selection cards provided -I quickly calculated: a FULL set of these paints would cost about $3,000. I will probably add a few more shades... I really like Polar Night, Cranberry & Indian summer is also lovely, easy to choose from all the vibrant selections! About these Pipettes... My cat is obsessed and jumps on my desk at night (grrrr) and steals them! He also chews them and destroys them - last night I forgot to put my art away - a sweet tiny container garden painting' was destroyed by water from a cat stealing Pipettes. I put drops of rosemary on them now so if he takes one, hopefully he won't like the taste and leave them alone. He already knows better than to jump on my desk during the day. The paint will probably be used more for hi-lighting and accent details, it's raining and foggy - a great day to paint & explore new ideas and mediums. Grateful to God & the Universe for this new day of discovery! Created to create. Ginger loves popcorn - me too! It's my goto late night snack and I'll admit, a few times I have it for lunch. I crave popcorn, with butter & even cheddar cheese sometimes, Ginger too. Well she craves it but she only gets a kernel, or two. The minute she sees me with my bowl she's right beside me and puts her paw on my leg to make sure I am aware of her drooling presence. Ginger watches TV , more than the others, especially if she hears dogs, she's like a tiny human at times. This is her and her rolls enjoying t.v. time on the sofa - until we can explore the outdoors and lesson the rolls. I might paint all my girls on the sofa, just for fun. Painting brings me JOY! Yesterday, I painted twice... today is to rain all day - a great day to paint & watch snow melt - yay!
Today - it's all about Today. What will you do today? it's all that matters. I was reading and one word appeared in a chapter at least 5 times- now, anyone reading and book might say - O.k., O.k... I get it - 5 times in one chapter - it's important to the story. The word was TODAY' and it was in the Bible. One minute I was reading about war & destruction and the next I (we) are brought right up to the NOW when The bible states- THIS BOOK you ARE reading -today... is all that matters. The chapter was Deuteronomy 29:10 and it reminds us of the LAW and reminds us - TODAY - focus on it today, now. Isn't that amazing? From TODAY forward God wants your attention -more importantly -your LOVE. Jesus teaches us how, when & where... today. Do what you can today to be like Jesus, be kind to strangers, be helpful if you can, be patient, be understanding... and if you can't think of anything nice to say - than just be quiet. 29: 10 All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God—your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel, 11 together with your children and your wives, and the foreigners living in your camps who chop your wood and carry your water. 12 You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath, 13 to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 14 I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you 15 who are standing here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God but also with those who are not here today. A few days ago - fear mongering started with the insinuation that Robert Pickton was going to be available for day parole.. Who is he you might ask? Canadian serial murderer who fed his victims to the pigs and bragged about it in jail... get day parole? Not anytime soon! So, why is the media behaving as though it's possibility - to stir the pot, to be a 'shit disturber' -a Canadian term for being an asshole. Perhaps it's to distract Canadians from other shenanigans. Either way - it's uncalled for. All this bullcrap does is reinstate fear & pain for ALL those involved including numerous family members. Rehashing hatred and anger for many. Just the fact it is even mentioned is a JOKE - and speaks volumes about the failing judicial system in Canada who keeps letting dangerous, sick nasty criminals out - why are they mentioning day parole for someone given a LIFE sentence? At first I was angry myself, then realized it's just the Canadian media with nothing better to report - trying to stir the pot. Just ignore them, better yet - demand they actually do their job and educate us on happenings around the world as well as in Canada. Robert Prickton will stay in jail, until he dies. It's hard for anyone to focus on today' when others try to drag you back to the past & pain... today is really all we have. With God, I have the strength for anything 'Today gives. Yesterday we had company which was enjoyable, the girls enjoy it as much as I do and more, when it's grandma with left overs- yum! Nanny saves all her meat scraps and freezes them to bring up when she visits, they know this an hang out in the kitchen waiting patiently. Earlier, I was trying to figure out Poppys birthday' to see when she will exactly be double digits'... I was shocked to learn - she already is! Poppy will be 11 this year!! Poppy was born June 2013 and I picked her up in August 2013 - this year she'll be 11 - dog party happening this summer.
Looking through photos of her - each one seems 'like yesterday', I can remember taking them, including the first day when she did her first -armpit snuggle - which she does STILL a few times a day, especially at nap time.. Poppy likes to get her tiny nose right in the crook of my armpit to snuggle and fall asleep. 11 years -has flown with my tiny constant companion, the grey has grown all over her sweet tiny face and body. The love this tiny creature had provided is priceless, my sweet tiny yet mighty service dog (now retired) - we have so many fond memories. Going through photos I was reminded of lost loves, Tequila, Scruffy... I miss them still. Daisy & Poppy have a close relationship, of course realizing Poppy is older -made me aware Daisy is older than I also thought, she's 14 - that makes me happy & sad. The life expectancy of most dogs is close, the thought of losing her (any of them) causes me to tear up & my heart hurt - so I force myself to give thanks and enjoy them, this day & every day I get with all my girls. I had plans for today but have decided to change them for some serious snuggling, reading and the occasional ball tossing, we're all looking forward to warmer days and exploring outside. What would life be without a dog - I never want to find out. Today is a good day to paint my dogs. Creatures inspire me to paint & create & love. Good morning & what a beautiful morning it is! The sky was bright magenta! I can't seem to take photos of it but today was close. Inspired by the sky before the day even begins - awesome. Inspiration is everywhere but I am often inspired by other humans - aren't we all... Today I'm telling you about my friend Ivan, who has inspired for at least a decade. Ivan and I met when he invited me to draw/cartoon for Treating Yourself magazine! I noticed & admired his editorial cartoons & showed him some of my work - the next thing I knew, I was a regular feature with Ivan in every magazine! We also became friends and were able to meet a few times a year, always a pleasure. Ivan is one of the nicest humans I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and calling friend. He's very creative (as is his wife & family) besides being a cartoonist he is a game designer, logo designer, cannabis artist & enthusiasts, editorial cartoonist and float creator. His floats are incredible & powerful, a message for all to see on a huge scale with movement too! I told him with his current float, he is officially the biggest (heehee) editorial cartoonist in the world, imo. The parade has been happening since 1975 Ivan had a cool experience recently, the person/politician portrayed on the float actually showed up to see it in person! Lol, I can only imagine the giggles to be had. Can you imagine Trudeau doing the same? Phhhbt, the way things are in Canada at the moment -he's probably have Ivan arrested & stop him from accessing his bank account, call him names and definitely have him BLOCKED, from sharing. Can we even have a parade?? Our PEACEFUL protest was like a parade, until police trampled protestors. Anyway, enough about Trudeau the traitor - what a celebration this parade is! The photos look like everyone is having a fantastic time! I'd love to see it in person. I wonder how long it takes - a year, I wonder how many fish masks were made? See more photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/170258017@N06/albums/72177720314666947/with/53518471003 The pen is mightier than the sword, cartoonist have been proving that since the beginning of time - especially political cartoonist! Who knows maybe this politician will sort things out -by the people for the people (world wide). I'm grateful to call Ivan friend, he always has a positive word, is caring, funny and VERY inspiring, I wish Switzerland was closer, I'd love to hang out in the shop for a few hours & watch the creations happen. Ivan & a team created the float & thousands were able to enjoy, wonderful. I think the politician must have a great sense of humour - it really looks like him, of course. Ivan has a www.ivanart.net. if you'd like to learn more about this creative genius & all around lovely human. I'm a fan especially of Ivans: Why?Why Not? Have a peek: http://www.ivanart.net/why-not. he also a book, t shirt & prints available! A great gift for those who appreciate the pen being mightier than the sword. You can also find Ivan on Fb & Instagram Ivanartnet - give him a follow you won't be disappointed. Created to create! Hide & Seek or Seek and Find.. depends on who's seeking. I'm experimenting with paint, brushes, this image was completely imagined (thank goodness -lol) as I was pondering the woods with it's rock layers'. It only took me about an hour but has inspired a bigger painting idea -that's how it usually works.
Over the years I've had people question: How do you paint every day? How/where do you get your ideas? What supplies do I need to start? How do you keep inspired? ...I think it's easy' & here's how - simple suggestions: -Habit, DO it - every day! Find or MAKE time, if you have time to sit and watch TV - you have time to create. -Do it while watching TV, have a sketch book always ready. -If you can't imagine - copy images from a book, PIN or free online image resources not 'trace', tracing does not teach you how to draw. -Make it fun, get your tea or coffee & put on some music -I prefer classical for painting', relaxing, chill, classical guitar. -Read books! Go to the library and be inspired by the countless art books! -Don't compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yourself as you keep getting better with daily practice! -Draw one item 40 times, it's a start & you WILL get better as you go along.. draw a Bee 40 times and notice the difference. -Take an online class! I have taken live classes & online... mostly online the last few years with Craftsy & Domestica both very affordable, Domestica had an offer recently 3 course for $20. There's always something to learn from other artists. -Surround yourself with other artists -even online. Or from books - this way you won't be intimidated' by others talents, go at your own pace - just keep going. -Take a live class! Learn from an artist who already has had years (decades) to master their craft.. saving you from making mistakes they have already experienced. There is a painter/teacher that is close to where I live Harvey Walker, I love all his work: http://harveywalkerart.ca. I hope to take one of his classes this summer, once the snow has melted :). There are many teachers- check out your local museum or craft store or search online. -A good friend is also teaching a course! If in Georgina - I recommend taking my friend Lindas course: https://thegcac.ca/event/intro-to-acrylic-painting-with-linda-pauer-3/ Linda is a great teacher, patient, fun and inspiring.. She has mastered colour matching like none else I know - this will help others learn and skip many errors (especially with watercolour) helping new artists to achieve levels that take others decades to master. Most classes have supplies included so you don't have to go out and purchase everything which can be very costly to start - 'try something before you invest in all the material just in case you decided I like acrylic more than watercolour, or gouache, or sculpting or word working... the possibilities are endless.& l If I was closer I'd take it - just for fun & to learn a trick or two. Linda is a much better water colour artist than I am, she's the one who suggested I try Gouache!! lol - After seeing my water colour attempts - Thanks Linda!! xo Finally - Make no excuses.. all you need to start is a pencil and paper! I watched an artist rise on Instagram who started by drawing and painting on all that was available (for free) used cardboard from boxes and products - like discarded cereal boxes. Make no excuses - make art! It fees good to express yourself with paint! - I know. Start by doodling - just start. We have all been created to create! Next - I'm friends with the 'biggest editorial cartoonist' on this globe.. & He had an interesting visit recently! Penthouse Hermit. gouache on black 8 x 8 There was a video about Hermit crabs using garbage as homes.. not because of excessive garbage but because people keep beach combing and taking the shells, of which I am also guilty nut now that I know better, I won't do it again. Isn't that life in a nutshell - seashell? When we know better we simply do better, that's how everyone benefits. The guy walks the beach with a bucket of shells and when he finds a hermit crab he puts it in his bucket and lets it pick a home - how wonderful... he has saved all the caps (and other junk) that they used and I couldn't believe it's not just a few buy a huge drawer full. Clearly, that human is making a difference no matter how small it appears. I wanted to paint a hermit crab and thought I'd give him a creative home to match , the penthouse of homes, heehee. Painting warmer days ahead... We are tired of snow, it's that time of year, especially since no one seems to have any, but it's good for the forest so I am not complaining, just anticipating warmer weather. There has been so little snow in Canada they are already concerned about the prospect of forest fires this summer, venues are being pushed ahead or back - avoiding the hottest months for safety reasons. Everyone is more aware of fire hazards, so hopefully there will be fewer. Othe than that -Im excite for new blooms after all this white stuff, Poppy & Ginger too! If you are taking a vacation to a sunny destination - Please leave the shells where you find them, on the beach, for those that need them - Help keep hermit crabs from being homeless! Have a great week ahead.. the snow will be melting soon, may as well enjoy it. If you want to see who inspired this Hermit crabs home - search 'Stephen Boehme, glass artist'. I am a friend & admirer of his work & he is a wonderful human too! This week I'm going to share a few humans I am fond o & what they are up to. Created to create Let it Be. acrylic on Canvas. 18 x 24
My fat cat is complete and working terrific. Let it Be' can be interpreted several ways... Let it Be = Leave the Cheezies alone, just because they are there, does not mean they must all be consumed right away. Let it Be= Enjoy the cheezies, it's not the end of the world (yet-teehee) they're just cheezies Let it Be= It is what it is... let it Be and focus on other things - distract yourself from over indulgence. Let it Be - Fat cat - love me for every ounce. Let it Be... Let it be enjoyable & paint that ever you want! Enjoy the process, the creativity & have fun, show yourself love - make yourself smile. He' Big, bold, orange and looking at me. I'm Chezied out - 3 bags later - one full to study (not full. for long) one open to study cheezies & one to sample while painting to keep the motivation lol. I'm good for a while - that being said They have a terrific 'shelf' life, I'll get some and put them away for a rainy day. My own cat - eats everything! Here are a few items he has tried and appears to enjoy: Sardines, tuna, hamburger, fried eggs, banana, go treats (all of them) pizza, pasta, steak (of course), bacon, ramen noodles (beef flavour), sausages, mandarine oranges, cream, ice cream, whipping cream... and steadily growing -the cat & the list. He's pretty active and will be even more in the summer so I'm not concerned about obesity, unlike Ginger. Ginger just looks at food and gains weight, poor girl -it will be lifelong struggle & because I'd like her to have a long life- I'm not stopping diet. She eats what they all eat, just less - more veggies in Gingers portion. Im not too happy with my cat, he gets on my desk in the middle of the night and steals my water dripper (for gouache) and destroys them, he also leaves a trail of pawprints- this time blue. When I remember to cover my desk with tinfoil, he avoids so it's now more about me making it a habit. Time to paint - what's on the desk , a gift. It's the weekend, a break from posting and focus on painting, I want to paint dogs, a whole tiny book about all the dogs we've had bless our journey, many breeds and personalities, lots of tiny paintings.. Created to Create Happy Valentines Day - The official day of love. I almost forgot until I read a headline. We don't 'celebrate' valentines day, love should be appreciated daily (not one day of the week) & love for yourself & God above all. Today, I am where I love to be - in my tiny studio, doing what I love to do -paint! Surrounded by love, furry, feathered (and a couple of humans) all remind me I'm loved. Anytime any one shows you they are thinking of you - there are many ways... see it as a sign of love.
I'm enjoying this painting, as anticipated, I'm also reconsidering naming Smokey' to Picasso - for a few reasons, his tiny blue paw prints all over my desk and he likes to sit and stare at and watch me paint. All seem interested in this painting -or is just the subject matter that I keep dropping on the floor, everyone loves cheezies! I give the girls a taste but not too many - especially not Ginger, I don't want her ending up like the kitty in the painting, me either. There are countless ways to display your love -that don't involve stuff'. The last time I bought flowers for someone -for $100., I was disappointed and said 'no more'. A crappy bouquet not worth $40 (pre covid) that didn't last more than a few days- lesson learned. I'd rather give a plant - the gift that keeps on living. Chocolates are o.k. but with all the amazing tricks & tasty treats on TicToc & Instagram videos, give them a try - easy, fast & tasty recipes that no doubts a loved one would appreciate. Valentines day should not be about how much you spend - unless it's spending quality time. I hope you enjoy the day - if you don't have a valentine, what better day to celebrate self love! Enjoy your day, treat yourself well, do what you love. Love will come when you are ready to receive it & give it. Created to create. Below - research & reference photos. ;) heehee It's snowing - Yay & Nay... It's always beautiful.. I'm ready for it to melt. It amazes me how most people don't have or have ha hardly any snow - I've been looking at it since November. There is a new painting on the easel - it was spur of the moment because I wanted to paint something fun and with a flat' brush, I like the look it provides, had to be caught up with tiny details using a flat brush. The subject is fun & it's a message for me - you don't see the message yet.
After pondering why do we do what we know is not always beneficial for us - like drinking alcohol or eating eating a whole bag of Cheezies in one sitting. I can't have these in the house - I hear them crunching from the treat drawer'. I know if I was to eat them as often as I think of them - I would get fat. How often is too often? Once a day - drinking alcohol makes you an alcoholic, technically. I don't plan on eating a bag a day - or even week but when I do get a bag, I'm going to enjoy them, guilt free. God wants us to enjoy life, drink the wine and eat the fat - in moderation. Not daily. Show yourself some love& enjoy the little things... have treats from time to time, treats that won't kill you albeit everything can potentially kill you - if you over indulge. When I paint I forget to eat so I have a bowl of snacks - walnuts, dates, cranberries, juice & sometimes cheezies on my desk for nibbling, I don't like being distracted by anything. This morning I learned about Acetate clothing, it looks and feels like satin/silk but it's made from several materials. I found (in my closet) a jacket my parents bought me when 16 - guess what, it's back in style. lol It's 100% acetate I looked it up to make sure my arm won't fall of if I wear it. It looks brand new, it feels so luxurious, I have fond memories of wearing it over 45 years ago. I told Storm I'm wearing it to church and he said "not with me". lol Made in the USA , not China... and of course - it's inspired from Disney & Fantasia! I can't wait for warmer weather - I'm wearing it. It would be perfect for valentines day - it's reversible too - from purple to red in a heartbeat. Do you have something you love, kept in the closet a few decades? Time to break them out, dust them off and enjoy they all over again! I think I'll watch Fantasia as well, it inspires without fail every time, my mind can hardly comprehend all the creativity that went into that film. Enjoy - you know what they say: Every thing old is new again! Look up! Gouache on white. 8 x 8
It's official! - Storm and I became Official at our new church and were welcomed -officially as new members with a couple fo others, this past Sunday. Storm chose this church because his friend is the pastor so he suggested we check it out and I'm glad he did. Sometimes you don't realize what you are missing. Our last church was much bigger than this tiny church in physical building size and parishioners. The worship is different'... less structured that what I was use to but I love it all the same. I like the more relaxed ways- yet not relaxed in zeal or message for God & Jesus and each other. We have been officially welcomed but felt welcomed since our first visit! It's a wonderful tiny church with stained glass, comfortable seating - a screen for our Zoom attendees and even a bell tower - which I wish they would ring! I told Storm , I'd like that bell, I'd put it on the deck and train the dogs and bluejays to come when rung. It was nice to be officially welcomed and we are pleased to be a part of the church community - all there to worship Jesus & God and a reminder for the week to try to live our best lives. Be who God knows we are. I'm trying to remember names now, it's getting easier each week. Reverend Max is such a nice human, Arrow, who doesn't warm up to many took to him instantly. I find him very funny & quick to make everyone laugh/smile... he also has an addictive laugh imo. I've said before -you don't need a church to be with GOD, often I relate to the forest being my couch where I feel closest to God and all His creations but having fellow -humans who are getting together (taking time out of their busy lives) to get together to sing, read, celebrate, pray - WORSHIP - is an added bonus. Where two or more are gathered in my name... powerful stuff. It was definitely the high lite of my week (well, besides the woodpecker (lol). This week we had things to do and did not stay after mass but that's always a nice way to end our visit - coffee, conversation & a treat, I always feel energized ready for what ever the week wants to bring. I'm grateful for this tiny church and extended church family - joined in love. Of course - there is a very neat young human Thomas who greets us, I'm fond of him already as I'm sure most are. There's also an adorable little girl a toddler - isn't it amazing how kids just take down all sorts of barriers! Just seeing them makes me smile! Joining a group, church - is showing yourself love, in this case - showing yourself & Jesus love at the same time! We are happy, it's official. Now, Bible study on the sofa with Poppy, Arrow, Ginger & Daisy - another favourite pastime. Created to create. |
