They're back!!! The mushrooms have arrived.
Fungi friends, Set. small 4 x 6 chanterelle, 4 x 12 Ontario mushrooms. both acrylic on canvas.
Brrr - it's chilly in the morning but I'm not complaining, it makes for a better sleep to a beautiful, brisk morning! Yesterday we spied our first mushrooms, the forest is wet & mosquitos are out so best dress appropriately, I forgot socks and came home with itchy feet. Albeit tiny, these backgrounds alone took a day to paint but the results are worth it and today I'm starting another but with a bolder background. I'm working on 3 projects today.
Want to hear something neat? Yesterday I was telling Storm: I'm painting a loon on an oar tomorrow, after he showed me a photo of a what looks like a cross between a chicken and loon but it was a duck! Anyhow, as I was in bed this morning, the sky just starting to brighten up, I could hear a Loon! The dogs too perked up their ears - so talk about my reminder & inspiration for what I'm painting today! Not that I need any more mushroom inspiration as I found several yesterday & Storm found a morel (a few) on the property YAY! - it was perfect timing -as I was painting a morel. I like to paint mushrooms we recognize but I'm going to paint a canvas with some of the strangest alien looking fungi, perhaps they are alien. The forest floor is covered in green and tiny blooms (seen below), so I have several reference photos. Lily of the valley are out in full force - to walk through them & breath deeply is a reminder of heaven on earth, today I'll pick some for my desk as they won't last much longer. I wish I could figure out how to paint the forest, in the forest - without being eaten live, maybe I'll invest in a small pop up screen tent since I can leave it up.
What are you going to create on this lovely day?
There is a smoke advisory in Ontario from the fires in Manitoba, Saskatchewan. I had family in Flin Flon and have visited in the past and was heart broken to hear about the evacuation. My dad was the foreman of Vista mines way back when and I actually went down into the active Gold mine when visiting him, a memory I cherish. Mass Fires seem to be a new way of life and it makes me sad if I ponder on it too much, the loss of plants, fungi, animals and humans & their habitat is devastating, I was happy to hear hotels have opened up some of their rooms for those in need. ONE more reminder about FIRE safety & education and how important it is be always be aware of your surroundings. It also makes me hope that eventually Fireworks are completely banned - unless in a very safe setting, not in the middle of forest. This week -today, it's to get hot - Good since it's June, May was one of the coolest on record. Prayers for Canada that we don't endure another brutal summer of burning... the rest of the world too.
I have been asked recently to sell some art but I will not, not until I know what's happening for sure with Canada Post...
but thanks for looking, asking & enjoying :)
Enjoy this day the Lord has made - check out what the forest looks like NOW below.
