Adam & Eve in The Garden acrylic on wood. Twirling art.
God gave us all we need, right here with every seed! It's garden season - everything is starting to appear and I've already been feasting on Peas, romaine lettuce, kale, cilantro... and radish, lettuce & cucumber (thanks to a neighbour). My neighbour gave me a cucumber over a foot long and mine are hardly an inch! I really have to figure out how to start from seeds for next year! I've read memes about purchasing vegetables over growing (including all the work & cost) - implying growing is more costly. In the long run - I disagree. It's expensive to start & yes - & lots of work, BUT when we harvest time it's quite a bit of produce and I usually always give some away (mostly to my mom).. but the best benefit of growing your own - is getting out into the garden!
Picking weeds, watching food grow is good for the soul. My beds are small and raised, keeping up with the weeds is easier, the trick (I think) is doing it daily.. just a few moments seems to keep it under control. I nibble every time I'm out there! Even a bit of fresh herbs - vitamins at their freshest. Adam & Eve content in the garden... too bad they didn't stay content.
Being human, I guess they did what came naturally - with curiosity... they ate the forbidden fruit & we have all learned the lesson. That being said, just yesterday my mom was telling me they couldn't find 'lettuce' anywhere in the grocery store, not to mention recalls it seems are the new thing'. & it's costly. I watched a documentary on Romaine Lettuce and will only eat it from my garden, from now on. We bought 2 zucchini last week and when I grabbed one to chop up - it disintegrated in my hands, every bag of carrots has a few slimy ones it seems, onions too - I open a bag and toss a few right away, I don't remember it being like this, only the past 3 years. I've noticed an increase in buying crappy vegetables. Rock hard tasteless tomatoes, I watched a documentary on that just last week, they are grown that way now -so they can transport and have an extended shelf life - KNOWN to be flavourless (use salt & oil) and LESS nutritious! Proven.... profit over produce, I guess - like mostly everything else. The way to go will be to grow your own tomatoes from Heritage seeds. NOT Hybrid.
Speaking of growing, what's fun to watch is mushrooms grow! We currently have a bag in our living room of inoculated chips and soon - I can see we'll have mushrooms, soon. I'm also very excite to see the two garden beds - one has wine cap in it. Here is a video to watch Of Paul Stamets in his garden - growing wine caps & cooking them, I'll try this recipe as I too enjoy cashews. Mushrooms are the new 'in thing - in the garden.
Yesterday I painted all morning - something FUN & BIG 3 x 5 feet! I love when I just 'wing it'.. just play - the results are of course - playful. Storm and my mom both had a sneak peek and laughed. It's gift tho, so I probably won't show it here, a tiny detail below - just so you can see how fun it was - heehee & a photo of the garden. Time to weed and paint before it gets too hot! Enjoy this day The Lord has made! Make sure you do something creative & fun!
