Storm had quite the adventure this past birthday!
I had a couple of friends ask me my opinion' about it... my first response:
Storm is 33, living his best life and making his own choices.
As parents - we do all we can & at some point we let go & hope they continue on a journey that leads to happiness, success (what ever that may be) and wisdom. That's what I hope for Storm anyway. We do not always agree on things, events & people - which is normal & healthy as we are two different people. The only thing I think I 'harp on' to Storm is 'God. I want him to continue to be a good man who loves God, our creator & deepen his relationship with God and Jesus because I KNOW it brings us Peace & happiness. That is my only wish for him - a better relationship with God, and he's already on the right path. Is he perfect -no, neither am I & neither are you. How do I feel about the bear? I'm fine with it, a little proud even.
I've blogged in the past about hunting & guns and I have to say time, location & current events have helped me view it all from another angle and my mind has changed on a few things. The Bible - above all else, had contributed to my current opinion.. Do you know Nimrod? I called Storm Nimrod and he said "Thank you!" He knows. We've been here over 5 years and I've seen bears about 3 times, one crossing my front lawn and up my driveway & I was frightening. Frightening because had my dogs seen it, I'd probably have less dogs. I've also seen a mom and two cubs on the property & have found many signs of bears. I love Bears (as you might be aware) I paint bears & read about bears & had no idea how many bears in Algonquin alone! I'd rather he got a deer but it's not up to me. He was with a bunch of guys and it looks like they had a terrific few days. Doing guy stuff.. women hunt too, but this was a weekend for men.
What am I proud of? The fact that Storm has learned to use a weapon properly, responsibly & is quite good at it, equally good with a bow & arrow, from what I've seen. I've learned about kids and guns and the reality is most kids would never be hurt if taught properly about the dangers of guns, how to use them and IF the guns were stored properly- less kids would die. I no longer blame parents of kids who get shot- they will blame themselves for the rest of their lives. People who use guns to kill have shown us time and time again it was easy to obtain a gun, legally or illegally. I do feel people have the right to own & use a gun, especially if protecting themselves, home, family. Think about it... when I was a kid and my moms generation - MOST, if not all movies were focused on the glorification of guns - for decades (still are) Cowboys with guns, war movies, gangster movies - pulp fiction -I can't even begin to name movies with guns. I'd be here for days. So they brainwash generations , millions with 'gun glorification' then try to take them away. Good luck with that.
I do not agree with hunting lions, giraffe, elephants just because you can afford it.
I'm thrilled he can use a weapon safety & successfully, butcher & skin a bear- skills many do not have. I laughed and said "you have me to thank!" When we had all male ducks and they were brutal to the females & chickens - the ducks got to go and Storm did it! We used the ducks for dog food, but he had to learn how to kill and skin the ducks and he agreed! It definitely was a lesson that helped when he moved onto a bigger animal. I have eaten bear & am not a fan, the dogs will have some good meals & stew will be made. Have you read the latest statistics for the food bank in Canada? I'm absolutely pleased that if need be, Storm knows how to provide & hunt, clean & prepare. How many men do you know who can't even make their own dinner, let alone hunt. I know a few.
The Bible tells us God loves meat & the smell.. we are told to eat the fat & enjoy the day.. It's actually pretty specific on what we should & should not eat - like PIG (because it's not clean- google 'pork parasites'). Nimrod was a man who pleased God. He was a great hunter. Hunting is a way of life and right for many in Canada who still hunt to feed their families.
I saw a video of a Pakistani family carrying a Canadian goose into their apartment, they caught in the local park...
I doubt it was to become a pet'. There's that... and much more we don't see. No, I'm not ashamed in anyway, I'm pleased.
Most importantly - Jesus tells us not to judge what or when people eat.. it's not what we put into our mouth (when starving, you'd be amazed at what people eat) but the lies & hatred that comes out of our mouths, that is the problem. Personally, I hope he's done with bear but have encouraged him to get a deer. He's also a good fisherman!
There are far worse things men could be doing - like killing each other, not for food but for greed or attention.
I, of course asked: Did you Thank the Bear for its life? "...of course".
Did you thank God for the Bear? "...of course". Amen.
Yes, I'm looking forward to a bear rug too, nothing went to waste.
Enjoy this day the Lord has made!
