Who needs a 'snuffle matt' when you can have a Snuffle bucket! Trying to keep my dogs from being bored, especially in a few weeks when there's snow, I created a snuffle bucket & was pleased with the results -better than expected! Snuffle matts for small dogs are easy, roll up a towel with treats and let them find them, it can take a while... my big dogs- 2 seconds.
Yesterday, I took my metal trash can, filled with with small toys, balls, bones, obstacles & then tossed a handful of kibble into it. Athene mostly watched Arrow but each toy they took out they 'snuffled'.. then rolled around and continued tipping out toys and then still searched them, long after they were dumped. It amused them for 30 minutes easy.
Athene also played with all the toys. So it worked! I also freeze cored apples and stuff with peanut butter and liverwurst for a special edible treat. I can't take them on walks in the winter but I make sure they stay curious & content.
Athene tried to nibble the metal bucket then moved on... lol wonderful considering she has jaws of Steele and destroys something, daily.

It doesn't take much to amuse my girls, this and hide and seek are our favourite games. It's fun to watch them and encourage play. Daisy never played with Arrow, I guess because of the age difference - so it's like Arrow is learning to play new games, the best is when Athene steals her ball and makes Arrow chase her. Dogs are they best, ready to play and nap when we are. They all love lying by the fireplace.
