Athene & Poppy. day3 and the pup is familiarizing herself.. Poppy is the first to initiate 'play' - LOL - thats' because she only has weeks with her same size playing partner.. I swear this puppy grew 1/3 since yesterday!
What I forgot, but quickly remembered: puppies have small bladders & it's really important you don't yell at them, I have pee pads in the bathroom for the small dogs as they can't even go out at all, you won't believe the snow we have. So I follow it or walk with my head tilted to see pee, it's part of pupping! It is not a big deal. Floors can be washed, positive reinforcement is key. Puppies. love to use fingers as a teether'... this puppy has needle fangs and tiny tiny teeth, they are sharp, I baked cookies this morning, extra hard and made them finger size... she loves them, I know what's in them & everyone gets the same, giving special treats' can cause jealousy.
Athene is taking to us quickly, I let the small dogs snap and teach her a few things then the next minute they are chasing each other, it's like a dose of fricken sunshine. I know - it's also work. We must show her she is loved and safe and no one can be mean to her, if a dog snaps I tell it to "behave!"... lesson number one & forever. Poppy sleeps with me, now it's a different story, the pup wants to snuggle me and she won't have any of it! The first night I felt bad, when I woke and Poppy was at my feet sleeping on the top of the blanket - she made it very clear, she's not sharing. So, the pup will be sleeping on the floor with her sister as she gets bigger and Poppy sleeps closest to me, she has earned the right. She is already loved, especially by the cat.
About dogs.. I have never been in favour for microchipping dogs. I needed one in Poppy to go to Spain, so I did not go to Spain. I had read about some having reactions, especially tiny dogs and some died, others said they always feel it & regret it. So NOW, a huge Micro Chip company has apparently' disappeared, leaving all those chips more or less useless. I wonder if they has to pay a monthly subscription? Either way, one more reason to pass on the 'chip' .
Do your research for your dogs, they trust you to do so.
Happy Family day! I have puppy stuff and painting and watching snow melt - wishful thinking!
Tomorrow, I'll show you some snow! lol... and Ginger & Athene.
