Thinking I could stay in bed with the dogs and snuggle- LOL Tell that to Athene, who doesn't understand routine' yet.
Like a toddler, she's pulling dirty laundry out of the basket & running around, jumping up, climbing over and just learning - NO! & starting to understand, when mom yells "NO!" she better take cover under the sofa, which she won't be able to do in a week. 'Nap time', she thinks is 'alone playtime' or wrestle with the cat time. They play non stop which is awesome and exhausting - about every 2 minutes - I'm yelling at one or the other to: "LET GO!" of each others ears. The others, especially Ginger, are mourning & missing Daisy, us too.
I get most emotional at dinner time. I've been trying to start to remove' kibble from their diet. ALL kibble. I watched a documentary on Pet Food (& treats) & have read a few articles and I'm done with kibble. Daisy was lumpy, near the end and it was difficult as there was nothing to be done, the surgery might be as damaging. Dogs are getting sicker and when you understand 'why' - well, you have a choice to make. Watch "Pet Fooled"... decide for yourself.
Kibble is absolutely the easiest. Pet Fooled made me sad that we have been (ARE being) mislead by those who we have been trusting & funding $$ to do so. Messed up. Anyhow, Daisy always got fed first, she was the oldest & also shared her meal with the cat, ginger & the pup, she was kind, patient and loving... right to the end.
Today ALL (cat included) ate rainbow trout (fried in a tiny bit of butter & water), pumpkin seeds, raw egg & raw apple & carrot to snack on. If I add a bit of kibble (weening off slowly) - guess what's always the last to leave the bowl? Kibble.
Daisy LOVED fish skin.
Between Vets & over pricing I've lost faith in anything 'pet industry', I was reading they might try to pass laws in Quebec to 'cap' vet bills. Go figure. Everything has become about the $ and not the pets & they can't speak - so we must, with our $$$. Toys that hurt (squeekies - kill), treats that kill, collars kill, cheap unhealthy ingredients kill, cover ups... all about the $profit & not pets. The more I can do for them the better, who loves them more? Me, I love them most.
Homemade cookies ( a batch a week), chicken gizzards cut up and dehydrated for treats and ropes, sticks and big bouncy balls for toys. The best stimulating activity is play and exploring the forest. My dogs have a. better life but I want them to have a healthier, it's more time consuming and a little more expensive BUT.. I know I'm doing the best for my girls who I love and want to keep for a long time.
Athena has made Daisys passing lighter', she is constantly making us laugh, her antics & cuteness overload lighten the mood for all, Her & Arrow are starting to snuggle and play, Ginger will come around eventually. We all miss Daisy.
Especially at nap time & her smile - she was always ready for nap time.
