Painting from photos is o.k. but nothing beets the real thing! heehee -see what I did there.
Someone tied beets to the gate, I ate 3 before I even made it back to the house, I love beets but never think (until after') to plant them. Since having beets with lovely leaves & roots - right out of the garden, I took the opportunity to use a beautiful model for my warm up painting this lovely day! Thank you, beet provider for my model, inspiration, snacks & breakfast.
A couple of images below... some inspired by a few classes. The image with the pink and blue sky is a lesson when you have a messy desk. I had paint on the bottom of a pallet, not sure how that happened but then I placed it on my sketch book... image destroyed. It is gouache and I bet with some work I could repair it so that no-one would know- except me... but it's a lesson left as it is and constant reminder to me, clean my desk. The painting currently on my desk is acrylic & it's amazing to fix' acrylic, when/if you mess up. I added a brown bear and have changed my mind- I'll paint it out, when I get there... this painting is long and skinny but has a lot of detail, I've spent 2 days on 1/4 & am working my way across it. First I painted it quickly (20 mins) in a sketch book just to get an idea of the direction, elements and where 'light' was going to go. It's a great way to work out a few kinks before you go directly to canvas.
Want to know the best trick' for a successful painting session? I have found works with incredible results, for me!
Turning off my phone, throwing it in a drawer. Shutting off & up social media... forgetting about it all, including texts. For all who don't remember what it was like before cell phones (sad that so many don't) - it was relaxing, peaceful. You could actually devote yourself to a serious block of thought, time and concentration without CONSTANT interruptions. I've got to admit I'd rather spend time with a brush than idle chatter'.. I don't think I'm good company for many humans but I've become great company with myself the Dogs & God... that's me, in my element.
Silence, no interruptions is good for the brain & canvas. Healing instrumental music is good too. < I like this sort of stuff to start the morning. It smelled a bit smokey this a.m., prayers to prevent more fires... poor forest creatures, what must they think of us careless humans.
Back to painting! Clean your desk! Get inspired by nature - it can't be beet! heehee.
