Go with the flow... gouache (Turner Gouache) on watercolour 8 x 8.
Gouache alert! I discovered some new gouache paint & am happy to share - the results were excellent. My Windsor & Newton was diminishing (of course, after constant use) and I needed to restock but the prices of W&N have increased and the tube size decreased! Shrinkflation at it again.. so I decided to research, read some positive reviews about Turner Design gouache (professional series) made in Japan & decided to give them a try as the price was also more reasonable than W&N. I painted this handsome toad & the trick with gouache is letting it dry between layers. I then took white (on his suit) and applied it on top of the red to see what it would look like after it dried, terrific. Yay
The Turner Design Gouache was a set of 18, all the colours you need, it also (a big test) worked great once dry & I re hydrated them -which is a big test. As a matter of fact, I wondered what’s happening with some of the last W&N as 2 colours in particular didn’t appear to re hydrate as well, are they trying to go the way of acrylic gouache? I do not like the acrylic gouache -what’s the point? Just use acrylic, so be careful when purchasing it simply states just ‘gouache’. I’m almost tempted to try Turner Acrylic gouache - as I replace my Golden Gouache which has also got more expensive and smaller in size. I’ve also read Holbein is good but also more expensive and less per tube. Anyhow, it was a pleasant discovery & I’m excited to paint.
Enjoy this day The Lord has made & give thanks for all the rain nourishing the ground we walk on.
