All mushrooms. 8 x 8 gouache on black
It's that time the year (again) Fall Foray season! Just a short walk on the trails, looking closely there were at least 7 different types of mushroom! Bright red & orange are easiest to catch my eye - since the leaves have not fallen but they are starting. I was able to score a nice amount of Turkey tail, already dried - today it's turkey tail & chaga tea kinda day.
This panting is a reminder to always be careful & learn your mushrooms, especially if you intend on eating them.
The idea came to me while watching Ringo on Blue Eye Samurai.
Blue Eye Samurai (on Netflix) what a terrific story and animation! The background art is stunning, I prefer it to anything else I've seen to date, I find I almost miss the storyline looking at the colours, visuals and light. The story/journey is deep, emotional & addictive, it's impressive to see such a powerful character and plot. I'm disappointed to learn that season 2 is not expected until 2026. I wonder if this is a new ploy' so that people re watch the first season before the next - just to refresh our memories. Not only that but it was originally released in 2023 - yet as far as I am aware, Canadians are just now, being introduced to it. What is the deal with this? What is the explanation why the US has so many more options available to watch on Netflix, that we don't?
There are vibrant blues & pinks that set the mood and draw you in. How good is it? I made a point of leaving my phone somewhere it would not distract so that I don't miss out on any visuals.
If you want to be inspired by animation (it makes me want to paint) this is the show to watch. My favourite character was Ringo, he's large, considerate, funny, smart (useful) ... sweet, his ambition is to be great at something. I was curious as to what his hat signifies and what it reads - apparently it's 'Noodle'. He bangs his head on his fathers noodle stand and decides to take it with him -as he believes he is a magnificent noodle chef. This was on Reddit: It's the traditional Japanese "hat" for a traveling Cook. The hat protects the traveler from the weather. The plank symbolizes balance and discipline to the art of cooking and shows that he takes his role seriously, so that you trust his food. The hat is also the farthest thing from the ground, which is a good thing bc the hat is also the Cooks cutting board.
Today, I'm creating and exploring, looking for mushrooms to paint...
Enjoy this day The Lord has made - you were created to create.
