New coat for Donald! I've had this Brass Donald Duck for -a long time! It hangs in my studio holding a few items I use regularly, the other day as I walked past -I decided I'm painting him, next time I pull out the acrylics. I really enjoy doing this 'revamping' for several reasons. It gives something old and tired a completely new look and feel! Rather than tossing items - why not to give them a new look & purpose, even if I had simply painted it all one shade- it would be different. It's enjoyable for me to paint and not have to give it any thought, so while painting this - I was actually playing over in my mind, what I'm painting on my next saw. It is easy. All you have to do is be patient, follow colours as seen on the Original Donald Duck, painting on metal requires more patience - let paint DRY in between steps! Below are the steps I use:
The last step - covering the entire item in a watered down version of VanDyke brown and then quickly wipe it all off with a paper towel. This gives it an aged look (which I like) antiquing' in a way. The advantage of it being metal is if I wanted to make it now appear even older, I could loosely sand some points of the paint off, but I won't - I like it how it is. Easy Peasy and now I have a new Donald Duck that will hang in a new spot. I have 2 more 'metal items on my desk that I'll be painting while working on my next saw, it's a great warmup, mentally & physically.
