Did you see the strawberry moon? I completely forgot. I did learn it get's it name for the time of the year, usually when the strawberry fields are ripe for picking.
Days seem to fly by lately & there's always something to do'... there's certainly no time to be bored.
Yesterday Storm & I took a day trip to Peterborough & the canoe museum, Canadians & Canoes - a tradition since the beginning of Canada. I've been in a canoe several times & it was always enjoyable yet 'wobbly', you have to be careful you don't tip a canoe & should always wear a vest. Seeing some of the canoes yesterday -every sort you can imagine - had us amazed at some made the journeys they did in canoes that I wouldn't feel safe in - even if in a pool, humans are amazing.
The paper thin in appearance birch bark & seal skins amazed me most of all - oh, If they could only talk.
Peterborough is a lovely town, the food was great, we enjoyed walking around (luckily it wasn't raining) exploring and it seemed everything just fell into place making for a perfect day & relaxing drive home - the girls happy to see me are exceptionally clingy today, that's usually the case. I have to prove again, Im not leaving them... some ball kicking and exploring and all will be normal again. Peterborough has some lovely old buildings and churches I was a little surprised to see, it's got quite the history. Have you been? maybe you should - don't forget the canoe museum, I will say -I don't think it's for kids', there was a small table that was interactive but that was about it.. it's no science centre.
Speaking of the Science centre- what's up with that - it sounds like conflicting tales and it being forced closed - due to concerns of SNOW on the roof ... really!? It couldn't go a few more months for all the kids out of school soon? One less place to visit. Ontario doesn't seem like 'it's ours to discover' so much lately. Interesting how Doug Ford mentioned closing it a few months ago to backlash and now - suddenly it's deemed unsafe to be in... with snow on the roof... in June, July, August, September. Hmmmmph, sounds fishy to me, and many others. Who doesn't have great memories of school trips to the Science centre? I guess that is all they will be from now on, memories.
I was wondering what else will become a memory? Restaurants? I hope not as it's always nice to get a break from cooking but I was reading now, on top of many other things effected since covid-the price of Olive Oil has sky rocketed which will further raise restaurant prices, unless they find alternatives (perhaps not as tasty) & if they raise prices anymore- it will be much more affordable to just eat at home. The Restaurant business is a difficult business to begin with, servers, alcohol, ingredients, chefs - owners have a lot on their plates & I don't mean food. I would understand if they decided to give up, sadly putting many more out of a job. It does make me appreciate our meals more & consider - where we get our meals from. I'd miss olive oil, I use it almost every meal & salad dressing, and bread dip... Pray for the rain in Spain & maybe next years harvest will replenish the dwindling supply. Here's hoping! What is life -without hope?
Time yo finish my pine tree painting! Have a creative day!
