Gouache on black.. Actually painting something quickly- helps the results when you take your time repainting the idea, the next few are quick paintings where I focus on colour.
I stepped out onto the deck today and a loon flew by and let out it's call as if on cue'. What a great way to start to the day. It was hot and I'm a bit under the weather, I found myself thinking that thought many of us have this time of year: I'm ready for fall, especially as I see the next few days are not cooling down, but I'm in no hurry for winter. This year is FLYING by, I don't know if it's because we have a puppy (lots of extra work) or what, but I can't believe it's August already.
I went on an AI binge and am fascinated and hopefully when I see what the near future will bring but also concerned. Blown away where it is going medically & wondering what will happen to education? What about teachers? Concerned for all that will be out of work, all at once. One former google CEO stated specific jobs will be leaving soon - before 2030, bank tellers, retail sales & cab drivers, restaurant servers.. I already knew about truck drivers, but taxi drivers. Then, sure enough Elon just announced as soon as a few weeks the new automated AI taxi fleet will be introduced.
Mention about UI -(universal income) was a hot topic - which sounds like it can be a very slipper slope. It will create a society more reliant on the government. Most people in these positions must be getting prepared. Plumbers will be needed.. actually if you are really good at something, you should be o.k. as well. Its a lot to take in and yes, I'm thankful I don't have to worry about being out of a job. Considering all my past working experience, I can easily see all former jobs being replaced by robots. Even jobs where I was hired for my appearance - have you seen some of these future robots? Models are done... already. No travel expenses, model fees, no drama, no photographers, sets-- it's already all being done using AI, and saving institutions like VOGUE hundred of thousands... why wouldn't anyone use AI in these situations. It's a lot to ponder and some days - I don't feel like it. AI will 'apparently" give us all more quality time with our families & friends.. That sounds terrific.
This ex CEO (for google) was saying one of the best things that helps him is a 40 day silent retreat, (not many can afford such a luxury) including no social media. I took 2 weeks off and nothing changed. Actually, it took less time to be 'tired of it' and I am happy for another break after only being on for about 1 hour. Maybe I'll try a 40 day break. 40 days of forest bathing instead.. did you read in Nova Scotia you can't walk the woods or you might get a 25,000 fine WTF? I feel bad for those who love to do so, hikers and campers - especially when it is said to be proven healthy - forest bathing is all the rage- walking barefoot in the woods (I do not walk barefoot for too many reasons) and now you can't even go in the woods? It sounds a little outrageous. We have a complete fire ban, no bonfires, no BBQ unless propane, and I get it.. but no hiking? This seems like overkill', reminiscent of Covid days.. is it a test? Then why not ban fireworks, completely? I think they're more dangerous than a hiker. This is Canada.. we grew up learning about those who lived in the woods, those who created Canada as we know it. We watch lumberjacks dancing on logs, we learned how to canoe & camp- a rite of passage and now- you can't even walk in the woods? I don't think it's going to go ever too well.
