Let's play sandwich! Twirling art - acrylic on wood.
Happy Saturday Morning!! Oh my gosh, what a difficult decision as to which 'Sylvester & Tweety' I should paint. I watched about six, each time thinking - that's it! "Lets play sandwich..." was too much fun not to reproduce. Poor innocent tiny Tweety thinks "let's play sandwich" will be a fun game and happily jumps onto the slice of bread... once Sylvester takes a 'CHOMP!' Tweety realizes what's up and exclaimed "I don't like this game!" Looking seriously pissed off at his realization. Tweety is very amusing, his lines especially. In one cartoon Tweety says " that putty tat sure is going to a lot of trouble for trouble". Pronounced 'Twouble'. You have to admire Sylvesters determination - on par with the Coyote (& Road Runner), each time he is brutally beaten, sometimes literally flattened so he is almost unrecognized and sometimes by the family bulldog gets in on the action. Let's not forget about granny, who picks Sylvester up and smacks his ass until Tweety flies out of Slyvesters mouth, unscathed as he says "Bad Ol Putty tat!". There's a scene where Sylvester & dog are in crates on a train and slide into each other... it makes me lol, every time I watch it.
Compared to cartoons now, WB Cartoons are simple, well drawn works of art (explain that to your kids- each one created by hand and not a computer) that have made millions laugh for decades and still are. Once touted as promoting violence - please, have you watched the average movie now a days? I am tired of the still constant gun battles, car crashes and kung fu fighting, seen in almost every mainstream 'hit' movie lately. I so tired of it, I find myself wanting to read/paint more, watch less & that's a good thing.
Friz Freleng directed this cartoon as he did with several Tweety cartoons, I love them all. He was said to resemble Yosemite Sam in real life, heehee. I just realized his birthday was a couple of days ago so, this is a fitting tribute ;).
Friz & team animated (by hand) more than 300 cartoons! He joined WB after working for Walt Disney, which I find interesting. I think WB offered more creative, personal freedoms than under the direction of Disney.
He also created the iconic Pink panther which he won and Oscar for! Friz won several oscars for his cartoon direction including 'Tweetie Pie' . Who's your favourite WB Character or Cartoon? I'm already having a difficult time deciding who's next? Tax, Porky, Daffy.. Oh agooonnny, Agoooonny! (Says Daffy) what a difficult decision & duty to watch more cartoons... lol.
What brings you joy? Tomorrow, Jesus & a bear, because HE is who brings me JOY, Love, Peace & Hope... all day, every day. We were ALL created to create - in anyway that brings you Joy! Enjoy your Saturday.
