I'm going to call Storm the Robin whisperer'... The robin he wound with the twisted wing that followed him on the trail didn't make it.. truthfully, I didn't think it would, the wing was hanging when we found it and there was quite a bit of blood but we cleaned it up, fed it well and it seems quite comfortable. I guess it ws better than being eaten alive by some predator. I felt bad but reminded myself -that's nature, we did what we could.
Then a couple of days ago he appeared with a tiny baby! Feathers not even all there, no tail feathers and it can't stand.
The tree it fell from was very tall & it's not worth Norm or Storm getting on a ladder to try to put it back in the nest & it was late... chances are something would eat it if left on the ground - a raccoon, squirrel, owl -who knows. First I fed it some cat food, just a bit and in the morning we dug for worms (Norm dug & the chickens tried to steal them right from the cup!) I couldn't believe the amount this tiny thing eats! How does the mom do it?? Well we put him in the studio and I noticed mom looking in my window - lol. A peeping peeper!
I put him out on the deck in his box and I could hear them speaking -fricken adorable! The I watched and she arrived with 3 worms! Show off... fed it and flew away. Never too far. Now she lets me watch so she must know Im helping. It's a blessing from above! I get to see this sweet little creature, hold it, look after it - get great reference photos and just be amazed at Gods tiny feathered creation. I hope he flies soon, I worry about him and bring in the box when I can't keep an eye on it. . I feel much better - even now as I type I hear them 'speaking to each other. Mom teaching & talking "behave yourself when you are in that humans house & don't get use to it!"
How sweet it is.
Birds! Fascinating feathered creatures that make our lives complete, sewing forest seeds since the beginning.
Genesis 1:20And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky." Enjoy this day the Lord has made and give thanks for birds!
Amen!!
