The artist conk, scientifically known as Ganoderma applanatum, is a type of bracket fungus that grows on dead or dying hardwood trees. It is known for its hard, woody texture and can be used as a canvas for drawing, as it retains markings made on its white pore surface.  Every time I explore the forest I see some!  Some are small, some old and crusty but occasionally you find one 'just right'.. perfect size and surface, hardly a blemish! This was just right.

I used a tool this time from the garage a pencil like file, sharp & pointy, while creating this one I wondered how one would look in pointillism' style, something I was big on when younger.  I read some use wood burner and some add colour with paint.. I prefer to keep them natural. Albeit, I do have a tiny painted conk (almost finished) that I have had for years, it's a lovely surface but I suggest you cover it with a layer of  'Gesso' first.  There are many beautiful images online of artists creating on artist conk.

It is pouring & to rain all day! YAY!  The forest was feeling a little dry and this will be the boost mushrooms need to start popping! The next couple of weeks will be filled with discovery & beauty as the leaves start to change. They have just started, I can see the greens turn into different shades of yellow, orange & browns.. getting ready for the spectacular display of a typical Fantastic Fall before the leaves depart - I thank everyone for the gift they gave us this summer 0f  2025.

I was feeling extremely creative last night, I sketched my 3 paintings for today, that gave me an idea for a different painting that inspired another similar and ended with a cat & toad -toadally unexpected, very fun' - oh and a snail too. I hope to paint them all today. The dogs don't like rain so - painting it is!

Georgia... on my mind:
We have a metal roof & I think it's terrific.
Yes, they are expensive but you won't be repairing it all the time, it looks cleaner' - we put the same roof on everything including the outhouse for this reason, you can choose colours to compliment your home.
It is also safer - & fire resistant!

AI assist: Metal roofs are generally considered safer than shingle roofs due to their durability, fire resistance, and ability to withstand severe weather conditions like high winds and hail. In contrast, shingle roofs are more prone to damage and require more frequent replacements, making them less reliable in terms of safety.

The article remarked 'a downfall: you hear the rain and hail a lot louder.  You do hear the rain much louder and WE all love it. We have turned off the TV to listen. It's relaxing... mesmerizing. I have sat in awe, watching & listening to rain, music to sooth the brain. The few times it hailed, wow! ALSO, when snow falls off 'Kowabunga!' It's as if a train ran across the roof, even the dogs jump up like WTF!?

Downfall: it is the reason (I think) we have difficulty with cell service indoors, advantage some days, disadvantage others.  Mostly, advantage.

My opinions are that, my opinions, but I have lived with both versions, shingles (and have shingled a house or 2) & metal.  Metal is the way to go.

I speak on behalf of the dogs too.
