The making of a mayor! We had to make something to put out this year to say there is NO Halloween!   I thought the mayor when he says "Jack!? No Halloween? I'm only an elected official! I can't do it on my own!"  Perfect!
I drew a sketch on what I would like the prop to do and then My hubby works his magic. I really do get all the easy stuff - he does the body, figuring and mechanics if any.  Wood, foam a lathe, nails, glue and staples, paint, plaster and more paint and many hours of TLC and you have a Terrific Halloween Prop! It goes from the garage to the kitchen back to the garage too many times to count! Tequila has loved to watch me craft for years as you can see. ❤  She finds it relaxing to watch me because I believe she feels my peace. I am at peace when I create.
Norm is already trying to figure out how to place him so no one steals him. We have decided he will sit just in front of the garage with some candy. He will come when it's over and then where will he go - I've already lost 2 rooms in my home to Halloween Props! Norm said - In the living room! ... I don't think so. ;-)
The more I think about Halloween it really makes me sad. I am going to miss all the kids
"Hey Miss Peschel! I still have that fish you drew for me!" "What's new this year?"  "Will I be scared!!?" " Hey  remember me!? Last year I was batman!"   Hee hee hee.
Now with the all the terrible weather- it is really a good thing the display did not go up- it would have been hard on it - with no dry days in between- not to mention not so many trick or treaters!
Oh well, somethings can't be helped.   Just imagine how amazing NEXT year will be!
If you do venture out Have a Safe Halloween!   Here is a link to our Mayor - video

May the force be with us!
Storms idea! Not sure where it came from, sometimes will tell me a straight out idea but as with life - he just inspires me. He makes me laugh or has a comment or suggestion,  I  was asking for an idea on a Halloween toon and I LOVE to draw Yoda... I was thinking of having E.T. chatting with Yoda but  decided on a Storm Trooper.  ❤
Halloween won't be long now and I can tall you - for the first time in a very long time - there is no stress in this house. I have decided not to even decorate inside -usually done up quite a bit in prep. for all the company we have this month.  Norm admitted he feels relaxed and says he is glad to have a break - although if he tells me one more time he is starting in Sept. next year...
I imagine kids have figured it out as well as some parents as we usually the the fake front up by now. Oh well, it won't be the end of the world - it is just a holiday- One I LOVE to draw! Norm has promised the Mayor will be on the lawn this weekend! Blog & video to be posted. xox<><

It is with a heavy heart that we will NOT be having Halloween this year. Have you seen our display?  As timing has it this year there are several other 'event's going on and Halloween is a huge job on it's own.  It takes ONE month to set up. The first reason, I am going in for surgery- late Oct - Early Nov. I know if we were doing halloween my surgery would be late Oct! LOL
It is a very serious surgery - with recovery time 4-6 weeks- no work. If the display magically went up on it's own and I did not have to help or worry about my hubby - we'd say what the heck! BUT it does not. Norm also hurt his shoulder a while back and it is just now starting to feel better - so he can use the physical break as well.
Here is the problem - For years - about 15!   We have put on this huge display, HUGE! 100's pass through our spooky garage every year, one year when we tried to count with a hand clicker we got to over 800 and that was just the one night. It has also grown into a week long+ event. I feel terrible, but understand how important it is at this time NOT to add any unnecessary stress. What is breaking my heart most is that each year we raise over 700lbs = for our local food bank! No food this year ;-(
The only thing I can think of was to add a donation button for the month of Oct. to my hubby's webpage. Every year I have had a draw halloween for  $2.00 ticket **all the $ goes to the Georgina Food pantry,  The draw is for a Halloween framed original. Last years photo below.  I hope it helps.
We are making a prop for the front lawn this weekend that says 'No Halloween' but we will be back next year!  Have a peek at my Husbands web page, he sold 2 coffin just this past weekend and has decided to rent out some props this year if anyone is interested.  http://www.normansworkshop.com/halloween.html
I am sure NEXT year will be as always -bigger and better!
If you usually come to our display please spread the word! I am also trying to come up with a sheet that has a list of other houses in the area. xox <><

Well that was FUN! WHEW!  Halloween is over. We had 4 nights of screaming and giggles and freaky costumes and more! We had the best turn out ever which means it was the best for donations to the Georgina Food Pantry!  All I can say is THANK YOU!  So many people thanked us.. we had all the usual questions and  some that waited in line only to CHICKEN out at the last second. It is not always the little ones that this happens to. BIG and small we scare them all. A special thank you to Amy  http://www.amyanonymous.ca/my-blog--videos.html  and her family for coming up from the city. Amy took some fantastic photos and made a wonderful donation to the food bank. My other friend Amy for the cutest MUMMY cookies ever! http://paciascakesandcookies.weebly.com/cookies.html, our son who was the gate keeper this year! Friends and family who drove the distance  (worth the drive they tell me)  to help us celebrate.  As always Norman outdid himself! His Ghost rider costume was a HUGE hit! He  deserves the 'Golden Mummy' this year. The ultimate event for me is seeing people that have come for years! Since they were little! Well the fun is not quite over for us.. time to DISMANTLE...   sigh.. ;-))  The time to get back to drawing ... Norm already thinking about the prop for next year.some photos below!

Well, still September but the garage is starting to transform, no more tires and tools.. time for  goblins & ghouls!  Halloween is a month away. For the next month do not even think Of speaking to Norman if it isn't about Halloween!  Nothing else gets done and we fight, we fight about him getting tired and props going off in the middle of the night, leaving  bodies where I don't expect them and causing me mini heart attacks throughout the month.  As I LOVE to draw my hubby is passionate about Halloween so I try TRY to bite my tongue. The work that goes into this display is insane. All this labour for one night? Well it has grown to more than one night but really? Really. I can not deny that it is impressive. I do not understand how any of it works other than most are on sensors and run with a compressor.
I really want to keep a journal as how it goes up so I plan on taking photos hourly when he is at work.  The most amazing part is that we do NOT charge - we ask that guests bring a food bank donation! So it is ALL for a very good cause. A couple of sneak peek photos below
of a few bodies being assembled (every thing moves!) -I am sure if he knew I was posting these photo's Id be banned from the garage. Hee hee hee
As you can see we all keep busy. I believe that is the key to happiness ;-)  & Sanity.  Find out what it is you love and DO it, Norm does not do it all year but HE thinks about it all year!
Today I paint!  I did not even get to touch it yesterday - it was a busy daw drawing and cleaning.

Frankie is getting some new body work this year, he needs it - it's been a good 10 years with him in the display. He was always near the end just standing there and would swing his arms up just as you pass! Many woman giggling saying he managed to cop a feel! Norm swears he did NOT plan it that way.
Picture
new Prop - I blacked out his face so you won't know who he is and what he does! LOL I think he is already creepy.

heads, hands, legs and toes nobody knows..

Halloween was great, BUSY and the food donations were fantastic.
I am never sad to see it go.  My husband works so hard, my house is a disaster and I'm tired of Halloween when you live with it a great part of the year.  I have one piece that managed to stay out year round. It is hubby's passion and I try to go with the flow.  It keeps him out of my hair.
So many people we see just once a year, we meet new people all the time, most thank us for all the work obviously put into the Display. That part I love. I've watched so many kids grow in Keswick! The people who tell me what's changed since last year and the things they notice!  How do they see all these details with their eyes closed while screaming! LOL

To think that we are making a difference with the food bank. I hope people do it year round. I helped at the food bank. It is not an easy job and it is a real eye opener. It's not like going to a grocery store! Trust me.
Everyone should do it at least once. Same with being a teacher for a full day in a class of kids that see you every day. DO IT once. Walk in the other persons' shoes.  I think it is the only true way to appreciate and understand something.
Walk in my shoes.  I pray I never have to walk in some people shoes.

Halloween -  The display has yet to be dismantled it will take the next weekend. Time for Christmas stuff ;-)
Halloween is our big one and the rest scaled down quite a bit. It's all stuff. SO MUCH STUFF. box it, store it, dust it.

My new rule. Can I use it?  I have enough stuff to look at.  Use it or lose it.
I can think of one thing I would love for Christmas. Peace
really - not just world peace. Peace of mind, PEACE.
Harder to come by than you think.

NO GIFTS ALLOWED.  Thanks :-)  Thanks to all of you that did come for Halloween. You made it all worth while! Especially that guy that looks like Gerraed Butler! HUBBA HUBBA!

Tis the season. Everywhere I go .. tonight to vote! VOTE!!
Oh! Your the Halloween House.  YES we re. Actually I is not WE it is HE.
My Hubby LOVES Halloween. Not even Halloween, he tinkers, gets all these 'things' working . It baffles my mind. REALLY . I do not go into the garage much at all. I like to be thrilled, like everyone else. This year it is all different. Just that element has added excitement for me.

How he does it amazes me! He works all day and then is in that garage all night - AND it is WORK! It is all he thinks about - you can see the little hamster running in its wheel as we sit and eat diner. Visions of pumpkins dancing through his head! NOT much else gets done.
AND it has turned into work. BUT The best part is the food bank donation.
Really - do what ever you can do to help. We won't ever charge $. I would never turn away someone that does not have a donation. Perhaps they are hungry.
Anyhow.. Norm is in his element and he is so good to me, I try to ignore the other stuff.. the mess, bones, mud, false teeth, horse testicles, mice in freezer, stiffs in my bed! And people wonder where I get my material.

Good thing I love him.
We always joke about who is going to become the next prop.

I have family visiting .. for a while ;-) I wondered this a.m. How can I help.
And it hit me perhaps I am not here to help him but he is here to help me.
That is how it should be with everyone. Helping each other. Never think you know the reason for anything. My friend Carm said let 'Go and Let God.'
If you are not helping me then you are hurting me.
It is so easy to keep people down, negative comment, jabs and digs, said  to sound innocent but cut like a knife.. Think before you speak. if you have nothing nice to say - DON'T SAY IT!   It's that simple!

Try it.  For now I shall enjoy the tasty treats with my live in chef and we shall help each other. I am blessed for this chance to make a positive difference.

Now - halloween is around the corner and you know what that means! NORMAN is driving me nuts!  Cartoons to follow. Lots of visual blog material!  Boo!    BOOOOO Hoooo is more like it!
